You're not getting away that easily, John Madden. You have signed a multi-year deal with Electronic Arts to continue supporting their franchise of American Football titles, the latest of which is Madden NFL 06. Your mission: lend your name, vocals, appearance and expertise to the development of the Madden NFL games.
Being from the UK and not having much love for American Football, I didn't even know Madden was a surname - showing how much of a brand he has become (or how ignorant I am).
The Madden series has official liscensing from the NFL, and with a 16 year history, it is an authoritarian franchise. 43 million copies of Madden games have been sold - none to me though. Maybe I should indulge in the lesser of the footballs.
