View Full Version : Soviet OOB needed
Hello,
Does anyone have or know where I can find an OOB for the Soviet 1st Ukranian Front 1944-45? :hmmm:
I'm needing from the "Top" down- Army-Corp-Divison-Reg.
Heck, as long as I'm asking... can a CM Santa provide a Soviet OOB & German OOB listing for the war or know where they are located? :D
I'm wasting way too much of my alloted "designing" time looking for them and end up finding nothing. It's really killing my Semi / Historical scenario design attempts at the tactical level. :(
Thanks!!!!
Palantir :cheeky:

It's an absolute crime that there is no Red Army OOB book currently in print to my knowledge. I've looked high and low. If you have a few specific questions though, I recommend you go to the "Equipment of the Allies" section of http://www.thirdreichforum.com/
or even better;
the "Allies against Germany" section at http://www.feldgrau.net/phpBB2/index.php
One of it's forum members is Michael Avanzini. he is associated with this site www.journalsovietarmy.org (it's a paid subscription site). He was very helpful.
Please let me know if you ever stumble upon a Red Army OOB.
I assume you already know about these;

You could try looking at "The Red Army Handbook 1939-1945" for that information. Which I have by the way :D

I checked the book out at Amazon. It looks promising. Does it contain OOB's for specific forces.
For example, would I find the OOB for the 29th Tank Corps in 1944?
Thankyou

The book is not broken down by particular Tank Corps, it has tables and charts of what a typical Tank Corps would have for equipment. Not by certain units.
If you want to know what Units were in the 29th Tank Corps. Take alook at the list I added.
29th Tank Corps
25th Tank Brigade
31st Tank Brigade
32nd Tank Brigade
53rd Motorised Rifle Brigade
1446th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment
1549th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment
108th AT-Regiment
271st Mortar Regiment
75th Mechanized Battalion
11th Guards Rocket Artillery Battalion

Hi John,
Where did you get that breakdown for the 29th Tank Corps?
BTW- Great stuff guys, maybe I won't have to make guesses on what units were fighting where now.
It's tough to make a tactical battle even "semi-historical" when all you have for info is "units of the 1st Ukranian Front were encountered..."
Unfortunately all those books are a good chunk of money for something you're just doing for fun...

@ Palantir
I have the German OOB for Panzers and Artillery, which also covers all PzGr forces. The other 2 I'll be picking up in the near future.
If you have any specific questions, now or in the future, feel free to ask.
@ John
The Red Army Handbook will help me until a Russian OOB appears, thankyou John.

KG_Cloghaun, do you want me to send you the info I have from the Red Army Handbook? Plus I have alot of references materials on the German units (German OOB of Waffen SS and other units, German Infantry Handbook plus alot more). If you or Palantir need any help at all. Just send me an email.

Alot of the books I have is because I'm a GM for the CMMC2 that is going on right now. I'm the GM for the 12.P.D.

John,
where is it from and when is it from, because I have very different data e.g. dec 1944 (anyway 40th Army fought mostly (or exclusivly in Hungary in the 2nd Ukraine Front.)
My source is the Boevoy Sostav Sovietskoy Armii, which is a detailed OOB in every month 1941-1945)

The battlefield.ru team seems to me a very good team, so I think using them is OK, the difference came from the different date (Dec and Jan).
WOW!!
Thanks guys this will be invaluable to me in moving along and designing for BB. I'm also working on maps & scenaros for BO, and now comes along AK!
I see playing time shrinking as designing moves into high gear. :)

It shows how really unbalanced the diffrent sides were. For instance A German Panzer Rgt had twice as many tanks and more medium armor than there Soviet compadres.... It really came down to tactics and leadership styles and commander personnalities......
