those of you who know Dicke Bertha might find it interesting to see what I found in the scenario about WWI 1914-1918:

in 1914 the Grosse Bertha type Guns did the destructions of Belgium forts, and Russian ones near Danau river.
There were heavy mortars (70000 Kg) with a caliber of 420mm, fire range 12,5 km shell weight 800 kg
In1918 german used a heavy marine gun against Paris, that Paris people called falsy Dicke Bertha, This gun had a range of 110 km. It destroyed mainly a very old church in Paris the Saint Gervais Church near the Mayor hall of Paris, it killed round 100 people

indeed the 420mm mörser lovingly named Dicke Bertha was a 1914 420mm heavy mortar, not to be confused with the 1918 railway gun "Wilhelm Geschütz" that french nicknamed "la Grosse Bertha" (which expression is still in use today for various name calling..)
I wanted in this sceanario give the German the ability to use tactically this very important piece of artillery. in 1914, germany (and others) do not have many heavy artillery, who are of high importance to blast through forts.
in august 1914, the first infantry attacks by German brigades on the belgian forts were disasters with thousands of german dead for no gain. when the mortar units came (Dicke bertha + the austrian mortat units), the forts were methodically reduced to rubble and into surrender.
as for the unit, to give it enough punch, I sued some grouping of TOE, but it works... it's an important unit not to loose in the scenario by the way.

Boys like to have big guns. To conquer and reduce the fortress to rubble with your big gun, what can I say :smoke:. I am really fond of the MG42 :freak: and could have used it as my handle, but its high rate of fire, ammunition shortage issues and its relatively low penetration effect doesn't appeal to the ego .
Nothing is more fearsome than the infantry mortar though.

especially at 420mm... that would almost shy Rocco Siffredi!
