View Full Version : Rd4 "Cost of Glory" CMAK Tourney
Heads-up to all the CoG players so you're not in total shock when the next round starts: :surprise:
I have been informed that the upcoming Rd4 scenario is, the most bewildering & strangest scenario I've done. :crosseye:
Yea, I have to agree with that, it is VERY different but hey, what do you want from me? Another "easy" monster :ogre: scenario or ho-hum :spam: battle?
Thats all I'll say for now, I don't want to give away too much & spoil that precious initial "what the he**?" reaction when you see it. :shock: But I did want to give you some sort of advanced notice.
PS. but don't worry, for all you purests it is based on "historical" facts like Rd 3. :halo:
Due to computer problems ... am I in this one? if not no problem, I am sure I can find other things to take up my time.:devious: :smoke:
The "CoG" is not an elimination tourney so if you were in a previous round you are in the next round... :)

Kerry--at times you are purely evil, such as when you designed all those cliffs and ambush roads for the finals map in the Top Players Tournament.
Despite all that, I hope that you and your family had a great Thanksgiving and that things are going well for you on the health front.

Oh no. How much more can Kerry impose on us? It doesn't take a lot to bewilder me these days.
What's the latest on round 4 if i haven't missed it elsewhere?
Play-testing is still continuing on the next rd scenario. :)
Some tweaking still being done on this rounds scenario, it looks to be a very chaotic mission for both sides (although the word "mission" is completely misleading). :halo:
I'm not sure what to call it actually, maybe "what the heck?!" sounds better... :whist:
:salute:
Are any of the tourney players interested in continuing & playing round 4?
Scenario (Nov '41) is 20+ turns, @1800 pts a side & can be played quickly & tcp/ip.
Yea, I know what you're thinking, "Kerry made a "small quick" scenario after throwing "Hafrid Ridge & Oly Pass" at us?" :surprise:
YES!!! I took mercy on you this for this round.:clown:

I'm still in!
Sound like the round is a go then!
Still need to hear from the rest but I hope to have it underway before the end of May.

* KG-Jag
* Boff
* Victor Charlie
* Tripps
* Bruce
* Joebob
* RangerBooBoo
* Magoo
* KG-Panther

If you are in contact with any of the uncommited players see if they want in.
:salute:
We now have an even number of players, Round 4 will begin this weekend. :)
Here are the matchups for Rd4: :thumup:
Allies vs. Axis
Triaxe vs. 2054172
Doodlebug vs. RangerBooBoo
Victor Charlie vs. KG-Jag
Bruce vs. Tripps
Joebob vs. Magoo
Boff vs. KG-Panther
Since the scenario is small & can be quickly played it is H2H & not POD play.
Also for your enjoyment it will be played from only 1 side (randomly chosen) as too much information on your enemy will surely spoil all the surprises, or agony depending on how you see it later. :crosseye:
It should be a fun time: ME/defend/attack/exiting/"fortified positions"/run for your life kind of scenario. :nuts:
Yes thats for both sides.:devious:
Triaxe good hunting and my I win.:p :smoke:
The start may be delayed day due to unexpected house guests. :halo:
The round is underway! :hurray:
The file "KM- Desert Chaos" has been sent out to the Allied players. :D
Start date is June 5, end date is Aug 30. :cool:
Best of luck to all the players who will appreciate the "simplicity" of this round (once they get over their initial shock at seeing the map). :clown:
I hope you all enjoy this one and the interesting historical situation that it represents. :salute:
Post any comments or questions.
:nofear:
RangerBooBoo- your email bounced back contact me ASAP!
Thanks Kerry--I always look forward to your creations. They are always, interesting, inspiring and frustrating--a near perfect mix!
:shock: We need an immediate Allied replacement player for this round! :shock:
If interested email ASAP- first responder is in! :halo:
Problem solved, new matchups are:
Allies vs. Axis
Triaxe vs. 2054172
Doodlebug vs. RangerBooBoo
Bruce vs. KG-Jag
Joebob vs. Magoo
Boff vs. KG-Panther
I just did my set up and I sure hope you know what your doing in this one.....beause if not, I think this will be over before it starts.:eek::nuts: :eek::nuts: :eek:
:shock: EVERYONE STOP! :shock:
Don't setup or plot anything!! :paperbag:
Waynes right! :eek:
I just realized that I didn't even think about what I was doing in this one. :surprise:
I confess I made it all up just minutes before sending it out to you! :hissyfit:
:clown:
Get a grip Wayne!! :drink:
Just because I sent you the special, "KM-Wayne Loses" version doesn't mean you spoil it for Triaxe (btw- thanks for that $20 Triaxe)
Besides what do you want another vanilla "Mad Russian" type scenario? :whist: :laugh:
I told you this one would rank up there on the "most unusual" list. :halo:
Good luck, good organizing and may you succeed in whatever you think your mission is in this one!
PS- your personal goal is to keep "Maj You" alive!! :devious:
Heh, I have to say this is a well named scenario. Already in the first turn shots have been fired on some of Waynes units as they creep through the darkness. :bite:
You did sent me that KM-Wayne loses! one didn't you.....and you dirty yank, tone it down or I'll drive down there and buy you a beer. Better yet I will bringbeeer..you know that yankie beer is just crap.:p :smoke:
Triaxe has to redo his setup...hahahahahahah!
.................but all joking aside......I salute him:salute: for being a honest and straight up guy...... I am honoured to have him for an most worthy opponent.:salute: :hail: :hail: :salute:
Thank you
Wayne (2054172):smoke:
You need to read the special vehicle "names" to understand this one.
After some initial confusion caused by an error in wording in the briefing by your humble designer :OHNO: the round is fully underway! :broccoli:
I hope the scenario lives up to it's name "KM- Desert Chaos" and reflects the situation as it was on the field of battle.

Personally I'd be a lot happier if I knew there wasn't anyone lurking around just trying to ruin my midnight stroll.

Knowing that Bruces men, just as dedicated as yourself, are also walking about in the desert in the darkness, with lots of guns- peacefully?:whist:

What! You don't trust me? :cry:
Go ahead stroll about as calmly as you like. I'm SURE RangeerBooBoo isn't lurking out there in the shadows, hiding behind the rocks, laying in ambush in the brush, or hunkered down in "destroyed" vehicles waiting to blow you to pieces.
I'm so sure I'll even send you a bright shining candle to help light your path. :rolleyes:

No. On the other hand we've never spoken to each other before now though.

I think my tourney job is done: fun scenarios and getting new players (although old CM hands) together. :toast:

Haven't met a bad one yet.
How are the matches going?
Should be some contact... everywhere!
With more than one historical AAR's stating that, @ "an enemy tank (unit) drove through the middle of our group & disappeared into the darkness before we could react," comment I do hope you are getting a feel of the complete chaos of the situation.
Not hard to envision that such incidents were happening all over the battlefield.
PS- is "Maj YOU" still alive? :)
Some fire in the night. Some losses/kills confirmed, others not. Sounds of the enemy but with no contact--so far. When does the night vision equipment arrive?!
Mainly me killing Triaxe's troops.....Major Me is still alive & does major Me have to stay in Jeep?:smoke:

No he just had to start in it.
But do you really expect Maj You to walk across the desert gathering his lost sheep together? :rolleyes:
Bill, the NV equipment was on the truck, the one you probably just exited. Didn't you unload it first, everyone else did.
I think the "briefing" was quite clear on the subject of that equipment, just like it was about the off-shore naval support! :clown:
Kerry - I just tried to record the result of my tussle with KG Panther but I can't find the scenario in the list?
It turned out to be a tactical victory for the allied side (me) and would have been much closer if my opponent had taken more notice of the briefing.. (sorry Stu :OHNO: )
Sent in the submission request. :crosseye:
:halo:
The request says 4100 but even Kerry probably didn't go that far????!!!!:laugh:
4100 would be the total points of the scenario 2100 AL + 2000 AX.
Turns are: 23+
Triaxe and I are getting close to the end...Kerry I believe you have captured the essence of the night battle ...if not for those areas of ruff for damaged vehicles it wouldbe perfect.:smoke:

I thought they were a good innovation, there's no other way I can think of to simulate vehicles that cannot move but are still crewed and able to fight.

Ah I see.. <taps nose>
... there's no other way I can think of to simulate vehicles that cannot move but are still crewed and able to fight.
The only other way to simulate a disabled but crewed vehicle is:
By the designer "padlocking" the vehicle in place IN a rough or water terrain square (impassible terrain types) during the design process.
However, this of course takes it out of the hands of the players and eliminates their ability to impliment their own setup or ever change those starting positions.
The course I took was to "make" the vehicles be placed in immobile positions but still allow the players to determine exactly where those vehicles would be placed (more or less). This way each game could have a different setup within the disabled terrain restrictions.
:devious:
PS-
Just curious- has anyone seen that "innovation" used before?
Thanks for the comments!

The only issue is, the rough areas that are not under my control you stay awy from, to advoid little issues of men being killed.:OHNO: :smoke:
Yes, I knew that going in but then "it" does fulfill a scenario purpose- that in the dark you just don't know what is out there, an empty space you could use to defend yourself or, enemy units waiting to open up on you. :bandit:
If players plan their tactics and move to avoid such locations (and there are many of them) it has a real impact on how the game flows.
The way to fix it of course is to just setup those immobile vehicles in "single" rough terrain hexes during the design phase. Then every rough terrain hex on the map might contain enemy units. But again that takes away the ability of players to decide where their own forces go.
The Tourney page should be updated soon to show the 4th Round. :halo:
<The Tourney page should be updated soon to show the 4th Round. >
yes, i just happened to take a look at the page, and none of my scores from Olympus are reflected. do i have to re-submit those (if i can find them, that is...) :cry:
well, my game w/Magoo is progressing along nicely, we are now at the halfway point. sure wish some more tank reinforcements would show up. working models that is!
it is in fact quite chaotic out there, with units desperately trying to link up, especially commanders. lost a company commander who stumbled onto a motorized infantry squad with 2 LMG's. ouch!
but i did take out a PzIV with an immobilized Stuart. that was kewl... :clap:
fun scenario, never played anything quite like it. surprised my troops don't shoot each other in the darkness!
:sneak:
The ladder is messed up and it won't let me recalculate. I've reported this problem. I don't know if there is any connection between the two??????????????
Where is the link to the tournaments pages? Can't seem to find it now.
It is in the drop down of the game ladders section.:smoke:

Doodlebug v Rangerbooboo completed. 77 to 23. Ranger played a great game but i played like a pack of scavenging hyenas. Everytime I bumped into a lone German vehicle it was mobbed by the combat groups of 2 or 3 large bison, carpet salesmen, call girls.... anything which could move in fact and they all succumbed to this tactic. Any infantry were likewise attacked by charging mother in laws. After causing mayhem I decided to exit as per instructions and bar a Girl Guide, one hat stand and a couple of tv dinners I did just that. I think Ranger saw the writing on the wall but credit to him he stuck to the task and tried to inflict as much mayhem in return.
This was the first (and probably only) game where I ordered "congeal". Fragments drifted together and clustered into groupings which set about the neighbours with gusto. Remarkable game!
Guys--please watch for game spoilers (even little ones) for those of us who are still playing.
Bruce and I are beginning turn 15. We have maintained a decent pace, especially in light of summer vacation plans.

In fact I think the edited post above now reads better than before and is a more accurate account of the battle to boot. Hooray!
Whats the word on the final games still being played? :hmmm:
Or has everything come to a halt because Major Who's "jeep" is stuck in the sand? :laugh:
:salute:
well my game with Magoo ground to a draw last week. i took some major losses, but also got a lot of credit for getting the "need to exit" troops off the map, so it kinda balanced out.
I thought Magoo was going to report the game, but it looks like i'll need to make it "official".
fun battle with lots of intense little firefights in the grim darkness. unfortunately Major Who got shot in the back trying to flee into the rocky terrain after his jeep got blown up by a Pz II that came out of nowhere...
:-(
From all the player comments it sounds like the scenario is playing out even better than I had hoped! :D
I was worried that the, "let the players setup as they like" design with the large "immobilized" vehicle terrain would ruin some of the surprises. :nervous: But it sounds like it worked out well.
I'd like to hear what your thoughts are on if:
All the immobilized vehicles were already padlocked in place, which would mean the large immobilizing terrain square was reduced to just 1 hex. (of course then you would not then be able to set them up as you wanted at all).
If anyone has any other comments or suggestions on improvements let me know.
:salute:
Bruce and I have our game in the books. It was an honor to have my first CM game with him. I look forward to doing it again before too long.
Greetings all! :D
The 4th round has been completed and the results are in: :supper:
Allied:
1 Major Victory = Doodlebug
1 Tactical Victory = Boff
1 Minor Victory = Triaxe
Axis:
1 Major Victory = KG_jag
Draw:
1 = Maggo/JoeBob
Thanks for another great round of combat! :thumup:
btw, do we have to go to the tourney page and enter our individual scores? for some reason after reporting a game it does not seem to "link" to the page and update scores and final victory levels.... :hmmm:

Actually Doodlebug got the Major Victory in our game.
The victories were corrected, :halo:
The Tourney page has to be updated by a Mod, which I have asked. :D
