For those who may be interested, I have begun replicating all the ASL (Advanced Squad Leader) Maps to WinSP format. I will do 2 versions of each map with the 1st production run. One with the board oriented N-S and the other with it rotated 180 degrees (S-N). This should allow for wide variety of use in scenario's. If you have the CD version of WinSP you will be able to use them in the Advanced Editor to crop, cut and paste them together almost as easily as you would with the real mapboards.

I will be using some of these maps for the upcoming WinSPWW2 - Phony War Tournament. :smoke:

I am also using starting to use them in my (way behind schedule) Romanian themed, Road to Bessarabia WinSPWW2 User Campaign.

NOTE: ASL maps are scaled at 40 meters per hex, SP hexes are scaled at 50 meters per hex. NO - I am not going to go into converting exactly to scale (at least not this go round) but will do a hex by hex match only.

So far I have 20 of 52 Maps completed (N-S orientation only).

OK, I'm up to 26 maps now. Progress is slow due to other projects but work continues.

Hi DoubleDuece,

Great idea and I know how much work this type of project can be.

Are these maps you have made posted somewhere for download?

Regards John

Not yet. I have them created in 3 WinSP map files, 20 maps to a files.

Here are boards 3, 4 and 5 for sample. One thing is I'll have to do each of them in 4 views since you cannot rotate them in the WinSP map Editor. This will be the only way to simulate rotating the boards. http://www.combat-campaigns.com/Smileys/default/cry.gif

The buildings and fields are only placeholders so that designer's can customize them during use. For example you can edit out the existing tilled fields or change them to green or wheat crops or edit them out and replace with open terrain, etc. Because of the way WinSP uses hedgerows in the middle of the hex itself you cannot really simulate walls and hedges from the ASL maps.

Hi DoubleDeuce,

They look great and will be excellent for smaller scenarios.

For those who are interested I have restarted this project. Unfortunately due to my PC crash it seems I lost all my previous work so I'll be starting over from scratch. I do have 8 maps done though.

Up to 16 maps completed now. Only 44 more to go, then I get to flip them over and do them all over in the S-N layout. :OHNO:

Particularly awesome DD :)Unfortunately those familiar with ASL will notice they do not match exactly since the Editor cannot reproduce stuff like walls and hedges along the hexsides. Representing water hexes are also a problem as the water bleeds into surrounding hexes. :paperbag:

Scale is also different as ASL hexes represent about 40 meters while WinSP hexes represent 50 meters.

Here are 2 completed maps that will be used in converting older SL Scenarios to WinSPWW2. The 1st will be used in SL Scenario #38 (The Factory) which is currently being playtetsed. The 2nd will be used in SL#7 (Buchholz Station). This 2nd one has been winterized. These are very small but should be perfect for company sized, infantry heavy actions.
