as im in a lazy mood, what effect does the status of the unit have on its performace. i assume vets perform much better, but is it a scaled progession, ie do the unit values rise in relation to the percentage of its proficiency?

thanks

It's not so much actual proficiency that differentiates untried and veteran units as the sudden change (by as much as a third up or down) in proficiency an untried unit experiences when it first sees combat. From the manual (lazy mode here too ;)):

8.2.2 Unit Experience and Proficiency
The Proficiency of a Veteran unit (one that has previously participated in a combat) is a known quantity. This is not true of Untried units (those with no combat experience). A unit’s actual Proficiency is determined when it first participates in combat, and can vary by as much as 33% (relative) from the originally projected Proficiency.
If a Veteran unit receives large quantities of replacement equipment, there is a chance that the unit will lose its Veteran status. Every time a unit engages in combat, there is a chance that its Proficiency will increase. Less proficient units will increase more rapidly than more proficient units.
