View Full Version : A thought about Finland

The Finns used a lot of captured Soviet equipment during the winter war.
Is there some way (with all these new events, yay!) That we could trigger small disband units with Soviet eq in them to disband when/if the FInns advance upon certain areas?

ie: Force 1 occupies Salla. Salla starts under Finnish control but to my understanding, unless Salla falls to Soviet control and is then retaken, this event would not trigger. So, if the Finns were beat back here, and then retook the city, they would get one of the small eq disbands and get credited for fighting well against the Soviets. Other areas that could have somethign liek this system could be north-east of Kuopio and, also, Petsamo.

The idea being that the Finns would not benefit from captured eq unless they were doing well in the war.

These disband units could be withdrawn, or not, when/if a German-Soviet war begins.

Eh? :D

Certainly possible. We've already got big disbands along these lines for some major objectives like Paris (i.e. the Fall of France), and the oilfields at Grozny & Maikop, to represent captured equipment & industry/increased supplies.

I think that in a corps level game of this scale the amount of captured Soviet equipment used by the Finns would be pretty minimal. Presumably you could argue the same for the Low Countries, Yugoslavia, Greece, etc? I know that the Germans stripped the Maginot Line after the Fall of France to bolster the Atlantic Wall.

In general, apart from very good equipment like the Czech's t38, which I think provided the chassis for a lot of German armoured equipment, captured kit tended to go to garrison, security and and second line units.

But it could be done.

Right'o. To be set aside for later, if we still have the event slots/unit slots left. :D

Another thought - getting the Finn campaign to 'feel' right has not been easy. If they had too much given to them, it might also throw the balance out.
