I am attempting to design a late eighties cold war scenario set in Central Europe. I'm also looking at building a Nato invasion scenario and a Soviet surprise attack circa early 1991. I'm looking to see if somebody has already constructed a Germany 10KM scale map. I have a decent German road map and topo info but rather then spending countless hours designing a map I was hoping there might already be a map out there.

There are several maps of Germany at the scale you're looking for, but maybe not exactly within the desired timeframe (from the Rugged Defence scenario database):
Germany 1813 (http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/display_scenario.php?Id=554)
Goetterdaemmerung 1945 (http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/display_scenario.php?Id=53)
Rhine '44 (http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenarii/display_scenario.php?Id=404)Can't speak for their geographical accuracy but they might be worth a look.

Cheers,

Marc

Very elegant map indeed (Benny Wahlberg's maps have always seemed top notch to me) but at a 20 km per hex scale.

I going with the Gotterdaemmerung map. I cut it down quite a bit and I am going to add a few things but I think it will suite my purposes. I going with a brigade/regiment level conflict with recon and certain support units at the battalion level on both the soviet and nato sides. I'm thinking that this scale and the 10km map will better model a what-if late 80's invasion without it turning into the Pact slaughter-fest that usually happens in these scenarios. Nato will generally have the stronger units but will have problems covering the front forcing them to manuever more instead of just building a wall of units and the Pact hopefully will have more opportunities to exploit holes in the line.

I'm also interested in modeling a West German led liberation of the GDR in the 1990 time-frame with the premise that eastern european countries are in revolt and the GSFG cannot be reinforced within the first 20 days.

I going with the Gotterdaemmerung map.

You should make some effort to get permission from the original designer, if you intend to post the results.

Thanks for the advice Bob. The web address listed with the scenario is dead. I'm not looking to make a buck on anything and this is all in the spirit of experimentation and fun so I'm sure they won't mind if I incorporate their map. If and when I post the new scenario I will of course credit them with the original map design.
