View Full Version : Newest Version of EA
How very fitting that the newest version posted should be the beginning of a new page in the official scenario sticky thread!
A new dawn has come for EA and I, for one, look forward to the many enhancements that will come forth from Mark over the coming months and years. :hurray:
EDIT: Haha, forgot this bit: I look forward to starting up a game of EA in TOAW III just as soon as I finish off some of the games I currently have going. Three of which are EA, so it could be a while...

Nothing really new yet, I'm afraid: I just want to get a workable TOAW III version on the Board so that players have the confidence to start a game in the happy expectation that the Wehrmacht won't abandon ship on turn 80.

Ah, but to have a workable version is new and is welcome. :D

Just to say that I have posted what I really believe to be the TOAW III friendly version of Europe Aflame + new Briefing on the EA sticky thread.
Instead of widdling with the CD/download version, I converted this one from the last CoW version from the ground up.
I've no doubt that it's 100% playable and entirely bug free...:lier:

One thought: Nemo mentioned at http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/toaw-after-actions-reports-notes/46715-great-war-probably-our-fault-but.html that ...There seems to be problems when converting CoW scenarios to TOAW III with the latest patch (to be confirmed)...
So, not to be too picky, but did you go through every event to see if formations had been messed around by apparent conversion bugs? (assuming you converted it from CoW to TOAW III 0.0.17)

Yes, I've been through it Event by Event, making sure that the formations matched the CoW version (some didn't, and I had to redo them manually). And I've run it through several times, triggering a different sequence of Events every time, and nothing untoward has occured.
And it is the patched version.
Ask me another.

Well then, Yay! :hurray: We, almost definately, have a fully working EA for TOAW III!!! :D:D
EDIT: Now you can actually get to using those nice, shiny new 500 events. :D

Almost definitely, although you and I may be the last two people actually playing it.

Why in the world would you say that?!
After all, I'm sure Mantis will join us.

"there are many lurkers about" :devious:

 You kill me! As soon as I read Mark's post, I was thinking to myself as I scrolled the page down "I might just have to break down and get TOAW III now..."
Hi,
I'm unclear as tho whether or not the latest version (d) of EA is ready to roll for TOAW III. I'm a member of the "Rugged Defense" site and the latest version they have posted which is listed as TOAW III compliant is (b). As I'm about to start a PBEM game it would be nice to know if the latest version is indeed TOAW III ready.
BTW, even if it's not version b is one heck of a work of art. The depth of thought which has obviously gone into the Theater Options, events, etc. is nothing short of amazing. Mark, does independent wealth make it possible for you to devote so much time to this scenario or are you simply mad? :)
Take care,
Ron

Hi: sorry if it's a bit confusing.
The latest version of the scenario for TOAW 'Century of Warfare' is 3.4 (d)
Since there were reported problems with the version of the scenario supplied with the new game TOAW III, I've converted the Century of Warfare version to run on TOAW III and called it Europe Aflame TOAW III (b).
So (b) and (d) are in fact the same scenario, but for different versions of TOAW.
Both versions are on the Rugged Defence site.
Does that make any sense?
Thanks for the kind words but, over the years, the scenario's really developed because of all the players who've contributed with OOB and map updates, suggestions, general comments, moans and groans and criticism: I just sit like a fat spider at the center of his web coordinating it. {insert spider smiley, but that seems to be the one thing we haven't got}
What I''d like to do is use the extra 500 Events available with TOAW III to enhance the thing, but I really need to wait until enough players are confident that the whole game runs properly - which it does - and with up to 350 turns that'll take a while even for those who started playing it months ago.
But cheers.
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, it makes sense. It's what I thought might be the case, just wanted to make sure as I'm starting a PBEM game on Monday. Are you open to suggestions for other events to take advantage of TOAW III's greater flexibility?
Thanks,
Ron

Yes, welcome them. Do remember though that the underlying idea behind this scenario was to game WWII in Europe using the TOAW engine, adding just enough alternatives to make it play differently every time. The Eastern Crusade variant developed because a lot of the earlier players asked 'But what if the Maginot Line had run to the sea?'
I don't think it's practical or desirable to radically alter this concept. So what if...the Western Allies made a stand over Czechoslovakia/the Republicans won the Spanish Civil War/Germany trebled its U-boat fleet/the Nazis were nice to the Russians/developed the A-bomb/equipped the entire Luftwaffe with Me262s? are out.
What I have in mind are adding some short-term offensive options, giving temporary shock/supply/sealift bonuses as appropriate, e.g. 'Husky', 'Operation Blue', 'Watch on the Rhine', 'Uranus', etc. Maybe an Option or variable 'France fights on in 1940 (or whenever) - no Vichy, France gets the 'Admiral Darlan' formation, Spain joins the Axis, something like that.
Perhaps make a few more Events variable rather than 100% every time.
But whatever we do has to fit into the already very complex Event structure.
What do you have in mind?
