View Full Version : MOD Project Interest

I have seen mention on various forums of interest in doing/seeing MOD's for WinSP but have not seen many of these get much past the "here is my idea stage".

Would those of you who are interested in or are currently working on these type of projects like to have a dedicated location to host the data? Maybe an online Database repository on the project where members can edit and build it as a group?

I have never delved into or participated in any real editing of the OOB's or graphic of either WinSPWW2 or WnSPMBT (with the exception of editing units in scenario) so I am not in a position to really say what is involved in full OOB/graphic MOD project. I do know it is no small undertaking but if there were groups working together on this it may speed the process up and help bring some of these to a point they are actually complete and functioning. I'm not talking about any modifications to the game engine but doing this to in a way that makes it work around the existing engine design.

I would be willing to offer up space on my personal website and the provide the tools to manage these type of projects if there is enough interest.

Thoughts?

NOTE: Before you post, please understand this is NOT for projects to modify or tweak "Official" OOB's or graphics for WinSPWW2 or WinSPMBT. What this would be for is creating Civil War, World War I and/or future/fantasy type MODs.

Its a lot of work, a whole lot of work. The Total Conversion of my Vietnam project, which is just really detailing a specific time frame, has taken a lot of research and work, not to mention a lot of time. I can only imagine that an even more serious total conversion, for a completely seperate timeline would take a lot more work, and anyone undertaking such a project would probably benefit greatly from having people there to help.

Just to reiterate, this is not a projects or projects that are going to call for the rewrite of the game engine (cause I'd be willing to wager its never gonna happen). I do believe that this game can be modded in to degree to still make it fun for those playing it.

My personal project would include a conversion to a single man unit as the base. This would be based on the limited playtesting done by myself, Vas Fury and Skirmisher following the WinSPMBT-RPG idea. ALL weapons would undergo complete revision based on the old RPG Twilight 2000 (of which I have stacks of materials for).
Would it be an accurate representation of T2000? No.
Would it be an accurate representation of man to man combat? No.
Would it be fun? You'd have to ask Vas about that. We did seem to have fun playing during the short test scenario. I know I had a blast even though it is rather slow with so many players passing files. If you want to read more, here is the original thread (including some screenshots).
