View Full Version : Heading out - discussion for phase 2?
Just a quick note that I'll be offline for the next three weeks on "vacation".
Would open up discussion for a phase 2 on the workshop to assess interest, possible scenario, format, etc.
Sorry to be brief, but will jump in again once I'm back.

Yes, you did a fine job with the workshop, KUDOS! and enjoy your "vacation".
Some questions for Phase 2:
Should we go with a different scale of units, or should we stay with Battalions-ish?
Should we go to a scenario where both sides have an opportunity to attack, or should we stick with one where you only have to worry about attacking or defending, depending on which side you are on?
Should we stay with World War II, or should we explore earlier times, or the post-war world?
Discuss!
I would like to participate in the workshop even though I missed the first one. I have played TOAW off and on for a couple of years but I keep losing interest. I recognize what an incredible game it is so maybe its that I'm not playing it the way it was meant to be played.

Shame on me first - haven't finished my game with Larry. To my excuse i must say that we started very late for some special reason. You know what i mean..
First, i think we should stay with WWII as the game models this era the best and also most scenarios are for that era. Alternatively early cold war or we could set up a poll..
Scale? Battalions or regiments. Also for the reason that (IMO) the game models this scale the best. I wouldn't go up to divisional and 15km+ as artillery is often of range 1 and is also easier to "learn" at the lower scales with "real" range.
A balanced scenario would be very interesting, no question. Unfortunatly i don't have one in mind at the moment. Unbalanced ones: Road to Rimini (10 turns, small, maybe mirrored), Ben Turner has a eight turn Poland scenario, never played that, but it could be also good for a mirrored match. Hot and short, just like :hush: :clown:
If there will be a second workshop naturally depends on interest, haven't seen many newbies lately , it has gotten a bit calmer here. (In this point i HOPE i am wrong). It also depends on our veterans like General Staff, whose enthusiasm, patience and knowledge about game mechanics has made this possible. :hail:

Discuss now!
Okay...um...I'm getting old now and all this computer stuff got me confused, but thankfully CyberRanger helped me find all the posts again...and of course, they didn't go anywhere, but my settings were outdated. Anyway...
I've been monkeying around with JAMIAM's "Anonymous Heroics" and can say that it is balanced even for veterans, it's short, small and sweet, and the PO is a worthy opponent. As we're going into the holiday season, a lot of people may be too busy to play or commit to a pbem game. So, it might be worthwhile to proceed with a workshop for those interested to play against the PO; and those who do have the time and would like a human opponent. But, to keep the overhead low - we'll make use of just one thread, open for everyone to see.
As well, if there are no objections, we can probably open up the Team Forums for public viewing...anyone adverse to this?
Anyways - still open for other ideas, give it a few days to mull over and see what response is and go from there.
I'm willing to keep playing in the workshop against either PO or Human.
I have no objections to one thread ... especially for those playing the PO. It doesn't matter to me about Human vs Human games having one thread also but others may object.
I'm still in learning mode ... obviously if you asked my opponents so it doesn't matter what people know of my strategy ... I'm still stumping my toe on the game mechanics so what I do strategically still doesn't matter.

ditto what Hank2 said.
Sorry to be slow, just got a good internet connection (again). It looks like there's only a small handful - Veers, Hank, L'Emmerdeur, Telumar, and Jscott - with an interest for another round? Others will probably pop in if things start to move a bit.
We'll keep this one simple for the holidays - with Anonymous Heroics: Red Computer Side 1 vs Grey Player Side 2. Of course, players interested are free to match up with anyone voicing an interest in pbem play. This is the kind of game that can be played against the computer in one sitting 1-2 hours. Will start a thread for it shortly to cover its parameters and what we should be able to get/learn from it.
