View Full Version : Fite - Turkish problem?
RavenStrike

Maybe Snefens can address this topic.
We're on turn 25 of Fite, beginning the scenario in ACOW and switching over to TOAW3 about turn 19. Moscow fell on turn 23, and on the turn 24 "news", Turkey joined the Axis and mobilized all their forces. Except none of the Turkish forces activated on turn 24. Nor did they activate on turn 25.
Is this a Fite bug, or did we cause the problem by switching mid-game to TOAW3? :OHNO:
It's a conversion bug.
I'm playing a game using CoW where I lost moscow in turn 41 and there the Turks activated.
My opponent and I had planned to convert to TOAW3 during the fall mud-period, but with the reported problems in doing this, we decided to stick with CoW.

Shouldn't you test it first?
After all you are part of designer team...
See what happened with those "catastrophic" bug reports about EA.
After extensive tests Mark S. coudn't replicate any of them...

I had a similar exp playing GiO, we converted the game around turn 22 and by turn 27 all the German forces disappeared. This was apparently a mid game conversion bug. I've since started a fresh game of GiO in TOAW 3, we're on turn 16 and there have been no catastrophes so far. The game has generated some false error reports that I checked the GiO in both ACOW and TOAW 3 editors and found nothing wrong,

I already tested several scenarios i knew well from TOAW-ACOW with TOAW III and i coudn't find any major issues. Of course i have a file full of "false" (and anoying) errors messages (as everybody else...) but in fact nothing dramatic happened...
There is "something" regarding withdraw army events... already got "true" conversion errors - all concerning that event - in very few scenarios (Bob Cross CFNA 43-45 & Sam Mudd NAC 40-42 - probably a problem to do with... heat, sand & flies... :p ) but these are the exception not the rule. The problems are "armies" that don't withdraw when schedulled. Never "armies" that disapear...
It's true i never changed from a scenario initiated under ACOW to Toaw 3. So your point should be taken in account.
(Mr. Thomas... 2 more usefull posts like this and i "might" even consider opening my eyes when you post the squared "things"... :surprise: )

And if you keep referring to me as Mr. Thomas I may at some point consider sharing with you some of my vast warehouse of TOAW and non related knowledge, maybe :smoke:

Loading the CoW version of the scenario into the TOAW3 editor and looking at the events in question (in this case #62 and #204-#208) with the editor, they have been corrupted. Looking at the scenario that comes with the TOAW3 CD, the events aren't. Hence, they get corrupted when converting from CoW to TOAW3. What's more to test to call it a conversion bug?

Reading Okimaw previous post (in this thread) i understood that this might be the same case.
Probably (for sure...) i was too fast on the keyboard but i didn't hear about any test made by you until now.

That is really great selling point of TOAW 3... that all best scenarios don't work as intended. So in a fact that is COW downgrade...
Monster scenarios are best so this is really ugly sight. Ah, now I am happy that I didn't buy TOAW 3.

I think you aren't correctly informed, Mario
As Stefan said Fite file which comes with TOAW 3 has no events corrupted. Why suggesting there is a big mess going on when it doesn't exist...
You see, Mario... most of the older players understand you but the new ones might get confused by these kind of posts.
I think you're are not beeing very usefull to the TOAW community these days...
(in the end IIRC your problem with TOAW 3 is just the price... :blab:)

Hmmm, as I see there are problems.... not so big mess but problems with many scenarios for COW, converting etc...

Now, that is not nice to say to me that I am troublemaker and enemy of TOAW :freak:
As I understand community that is not communistic NKVD organ that breath and thinks alike. Why would flow of any idea or criticism be regarded as some kind of attack or something like that...?
And we should all realize that praising emperor's new clothes is not always (if anytime) good idea.
(in the end IIRC your problem with TOAW 3 is just the price... :blab:)
Not just the price but this problem as well. Price is one problem. I paid Dominion 3 55US$ and I also said that Shrapnel has overpriced this game. Yes, I am against inflating the prices of the games but that is in the interest of the wargamers and gamers in general.
So I don't regard my opinion as bad thing as this will show publishing companies that we gamers are not all yes man and should have patronizing their every move. Criticism is always good because that kind of feedback will give them some message. And that can only improve them and in the end will not do them damage as you may think.

No, Mario... you didn't see... you heard about it...
You don't even have TOAW 3. You never test it. So you didn't see it at all...

I don't think you are a troublemaker or enemy of TOAW. You're just not beeing very usefull to the TOAW community these days - that's what i said.

Oh... you have a new problem...
Mario, stay with ACOW which don't have any problem...
It's fine with me. And I'm sure no one will came here criticizing you about that option.

Blah. TOAW is dead. Next TOAW is IVAN. Norm Koger will make next TOAW.
Now, seriously - you are not the judge who is useful and who is not. They can ban me anytime if you wish that way..

OK, I will not comment TOAW 3 anymore. Maybe in three years I will buy it, to see Daniel McBride scenarios on it.
Mario
Mentioning Fire in the east and TOAW 3 in a single thread was bound to produce our typical Mario rant. Seriously, you should ask Jean-Luc to make it a sticky so that no one visiting these boards misses it. :D

Yes, I lied on this :D
Well, just got home at very exhausting night so all was not very clear hehe
In fact I wish TOAW 3 to succeed, not to fail. I will buy TOAW 3 when I see some changes that are important to me...
My message was heard and that is important.
Even Shrapnel Games was spoiled a bit, Dominions 2 costed 50 $ with only 3 $ shipping cost to Europe. Dominions 3 cost 55$ with 9.35 $ postage cost. Damn them!:D
I bought the game but don't like greedy part trend.

Let me see if I understand, if I open a CoW scenario in TOAW3 editor and then save it , I can get the events corrupted. Is this correct?
However, the scenarios packed with the game by Matrix are not corrupted, is this correct? If so, how where they 'converted'?

No, just what's in it
It's high on the 'to check / fix' list for TOAD - we're waiting for Ralph to be able to get into the code again.
