View Full Version : Lock ups

Posted this last week on matrixgames forum with no response, so giving it a go here:
Just getting into TOAW III, I've had two lock ups in two days.

1) Finishing Arracourt 44, I select File->Exit, then press Close on the pop-up menu. Result: game locks up solid instead of exiting. Not the worst of moments but anyway...

2) Starting Road to Rimini, having finish the very first combat round, I select Inventory and replacement list. I keep the cursor pressed on the down arrow. As the list hits the bottom, the game area (map + side panel) goes black, and game locks up. Cursor is the hourglass, and CPU is at 100%. However, when I finally right click on the TOAW icon in the Windows Taskbar (in order to select Close) TOAW springs back to life, and I am able to continue.

Using TOAW 3.0.0.17, XP Pro all patched up, PC above requirements, etc.

Haven't tried the nosound option so far, but will give it a go (but I actually like the sound effects).

Any ideas, or similar experiences???

[Come to think of it, when I got the game I played the Korea scenario a number of times, and didn't see any problems - can't remember if that was the 3.0.0.14 or the unpatched (3.0.0.12?) version.]

Since then I've played exclusively with the nosound option, and no lock ups so far (and kind of getting used to no sounds :crosseye:). Still, would be nice to have the option :) .

I haven't played either of the scenarios that you've identified here but from time to time when I'm closing out I get the "program not responding" message. I had a real problem with freezes in mid game etc when I first starteed on TOAW 3. One of the things I remember besides the no sound issue, which was apparently remedied with the .17 patch, was possible driver incompatibility. Did you run a dxdiag and see if your drivers have a digital signature from microsoft or are the most up to date ones? That's about all I can think of.

Curious, it seems my problems started with 3.0.0.17. Wonder if there's an option to enable the old sound support?

dxdiag shows nothing, all drivers being WHQL and such. Exception being my nvidia driver which dates back to the arrival of Half Life 2 :)

Maybe that's it. Look for the latest version of your nvidia driver. Maybe this will do it.

Could be. No lock ups since I updated to the latest Nvidia driver (91.47). Fingers crossed ;)
