View Full Version : StE Round 2 Axis Help thread
AXIS players ONLY of Rd 2's "HSG AM First Clash" Seeing the Elephant may post questions here. Questions will be answered by assigned Tourney Coordinators= Gen Failure for the Axis.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIST YOUR SETUPS or STRATEGY HERE!!!!
This thread is just if you have questions.
I guess you can also post of your glorious actions! But please do not reveal any "hard data" on the scenario or game. That means you don't say: "I just received 2 Tigers on turn 4!!!" You don't even mention what you get or what the enemy has!!! But you can say my attack is going according to play & just overran the first objective etc.
OK,
No one is posting here, so I might as well fess up to my weakness. I'm only 5 minutes into the battle and I've already lost 6 or 7 of my tanks. I tried to place them hull down, just below the crest of the first ridge. But seems like the Russian T26's zero in on them in no time at all.
I've tried to place them behind tree lines now as well as on the backslope, but russains keep pinging away, sometimes from half way across the map.
I havent moved my observers at all, so I have a pretty good idea of where the Russain tanks are, but it doesnt seem to matter, if I move to where I can shoot, they shoot first.
Looks like armor isn't exactly my strong suit.

Now 13 or 14 minutes into game, and I've already lost two-thirds of my force. It almost seems like if the Russian tanks can see me, they can kill me. Most of the fighting has been for the last ridge, I've tried to stay on the reverse slope but he's knocked out my blocking Platoon on my left is is starting to flank me now.
Rick
Kerry,
Will you be providing info on what we finish a game? About 14 min into game and I'm down to around a platoon of tanks left. I imagine they'll be gone in not too much longer.

If you finish this one that fast you may want to try it again or switch sides with your opponent. I know that you will not be playing blind but this is about learning...just a thought.
And by the way...you as the Romanian, can see into the Russian assembly area...he can't see into yours.
Good Luck and Good Hunting.

LOL, There's not much left to see in my assembly area. Unless you like looking at burning hulks.

When you finish a game you go to the CM Ladder and post the win (the winning player usually report the match)
To report a game: under the WARS (ladder) tab click on "Wars Control Center" then the "Combat Missions" Ladder, then "Submit a Game Report/Scenarios." Follow the instrutions from there.
I've had some difficulty in getting the R-2 tanks to peer over the ridge without getting targeted by 4 to 5 Russian tanks simultaneously.
Should I crest the ridge attacking with several tanks at once in a concentrated formation or try to perform individual actions a la shoot-and-scoot?

I havn't seen the map or OOB so it's hard for me to comment but you can do it both ways really, it depends how you do it.
Presenting multiple targets can confuse the enemy and if you are aiming at one tatget then chances are you could get a kill or an imob. On the other hand if you present one target and scoot back while moving up another he will have to take time to aim giving you a free shot or two.
Situations like that you have to play by gut instinct alot of the time, nothing is certain:laugh:
PS:I'm nearly bottom of the ladder so don't take what i say as gospel:laugh:
My gut instinct tells me that I should get on the blower to the Aeronautica Regala Romana to give me some air support now!
Or else I'll have more of these KO tanks littering the battlefield.
The worst thing is very low behind armor effect of those 37mm. Some T26s suffer 5-6 penetrations and still happily reverse from battle. Russian 45mm is definitely better at KOing romans, it usually takes 1-2 penetrations to do the job.
This far (turn 13-14) i've lost around 8 tanks and my opponent 12-13, but things gonna change as he started to advance in a more coordinated way.
