Gentlemen,
I only play ACW games. I spend most of my time trying to increase their scope. I am considering buying COW in order to 1: Play the ACW scenario....2: Use the scenario editor to make a utility to aid in fighting the entire war using custom mods from HPS Corinth.
I have, in the past successfully run an online game using Frank Hunter's ACw and CWG2. I intend to do something simular here except, that I need to improve it to remove the flaws that made it too unweildy. I cannot use a game that is actually operational in nature. Too many game turns. The moves would have to be at least 1 month (perhaps 2 or even 3). I also need to be able to in effect use an area map simular to the game "No Greater Glory". Does the editor in COW have the capability of turns this long and or making an "Area Map". Lastly, I would assume that it does have the ability to edit results of battles back into the game, instead of using the COW battle results? Thank you for your answers in advance.....I will decide whether to purchase based on the answers recieved here. Regards, Hank Smith

The maximum rate is one week per turn. It's possible you could artificially count each turn as a month or two. Todd Klemme did this in his WWI scenario, where he counted each turn as one month.
The map design utility in TOAW allows you to create any map you would like. The scale goes from 2.5 - 50 kilometers per hex. I'm not sure what makes an 'area' map different from a regular map.

There isn't any way to do that I know of.

I can't recomend TOAW for what it sounds like you want to do. It won't do area maps, only hexs. Making it conform to ACOW is possible but its really a matter of doing lots of kludges. Furthermore, while I am sure that Chucks ACW scenario is very good, I could never recomend buying ACOW for just one scenario. One of its greatest strengths is thtat its capable of doing thousands of different scenarios. This is also one of its greatest weakness'. If your trying to get it to play just one scenario, and one for a period of history that it was never actually designed to simulate, your going to really notice its weak points. Players sitting down to play a TOAW ACW scenario will also notice weak spots in the engine but they will be forgiving...after all they are also usuing it to play a match of the D-Day invasion and are involved in another trying to hold of the Soviet Hordes and save NATOs bacon. If you do just one period and no others then TOAW is not the game for you except possibly if your period of interest is World War II in which case your dealing with the real heart of what TOAW was designed to simulate...and you have hundreds of scenarios to choose from. However if your only interest where WWII in the desert then another wargame would probably be better. There are a lot of wargames around that do specific battles better then TOAW but I am not aware of anything that comes close to doing everything that TOAW can do fairly well.
