Hi everybody

I'm wondering what special House rules most players use in EA.

From my little experienc I've felt the need to have rules limiting the German forces in Libya until supply sources from the Levant come into play and keeping most of the Luftwaffe near the Channel during which the Battle of Britain option is chosen.

What other house rules can be expected to be needed if you want to play EA within the Historical limitations of WW2?

no limited attack/minimize losses attacks with HQs just to drain supplys

No suicide para drops just to trigger events (eg no para drops at Baku on the very first days of Barbarossa! :D )

other than the above and the hose rules mentioned in the player briefing we have no additional hose rules in our EA game because the idea with EA is to see what could have been and not to recreate WW2 historically (otherwise I could tell you who wins :D)

Some general ideas if you want to try for a simulation, rather than an alternative history approach:

Carry out the German campaigns in the historical order - Poland - Scandinavia - Low Countries - France, etc., and at the historical times

No extra Pre-War builds or defenses

Restrict 'digging-in'

Don't allow too much (any?) Western-Soviet cooperation - you could argue that the odd air unit represents Lend-Lease

Maybe don't allow the French and British to stack together or occupy each others cities and ports

Don't allow German units into Southern (Vichy) France unless the Allies attack Vichy troops somewhere

Limit paradrops to ten (?) hexes

Maybe spring the 'Barbarossa' Option as soon as the Germans cross the Soviet border: perhaps insist that the Red Army MUST line the new borders in Poland, the Baltic States and Rumania with at least one unit per border hex prior to a German attack, and keep the Red Air Force in airfields close to the frontiers (guaranteeing that it'll be shot down in the first few turns of an attack)

Don't allow the Allies to attack Belgium, Holland, Spain or Sweden, or the Germans to attack Turkey or Switzerland

You've mentioned limiting the German presence in North Africa - one armoured corps until the Allies attack French North Africa?

Don't allow Germany to bribe Franco with French North Africa

Don't allow German units in Russia to voluntarily move in a westerly direction (Hitler's numerous 'stand fast' orders)

Even so, you'll still get some neutrals activating out of the historical sequence, so don't allow them to attack until the historical dates (particularly the Axis Minors in Central Europe)

Depends what you (and your opponent) are looking for out of the game, but you could really restrict yourselves to a historical approach if you tried: dunno how much fun it woud be.

Well Mark it would certainly be interesting to simulate the ww2 almost entirely but ... I would like to try most of the other options first:)

Your various house rules are certainly interesting and I also remember some to add.

The Finnish army should not be allowed over the pre-war border but then the allied player would also have to keep units all along the border too so that he would not evacute the Finnish front entirely.

Limiting German forces attacking Mother Russia from Finland, Hungary and Rumenia.

Restricting Balkan axis minors to southern part of Russia.

I am not playing entirely historic game now but have also restricted diggin in and the Finnish gurilla forces are allowed in Russia.

The limit on my German forces in Libya was 2 corps plus one air corps. Maybe to much but Rommel did have 15th and 21st panzer divisions along with 90th light division so I figured that was closer to 2 corps.
