Just spent a few hours on the AATF beta demo, and am quite pleased with the new user interface. I didn't even consider buying the last couple of titles because the old UI was so hard to use. Think I may get this one though...

And, as a "paid political announcement", if you DO get the other games, you can install this one over them, and upgrade them all, instantly, to the new UI. :)

I am glad you enjoyed the DEMO! Thanks for the encouragement. After a month of BETA testing, I need it! ;)

Go Pat Go! Yeaaaaa Pat! :D

Seriously, I'm also enjoying the demo a lot (was thinking of posting an LZ EASTWOOD AAR if no one else does). The photomaps are absolutely first class and are a major improvement over the ATF-generation maps.

I'm enjoying the Demo as well -

Though I think that perhaps one more level of zoom would be very helpful (when looking at and or / selecting units within the map).

Also I'm not quite sure how the armarment of differing units are decided and or kept track of within the game.

What is the "standard" armarment of an Apache within the game? And how does one keep track of differing ammo's left for each unit? (I see the "ammo bar" ....but is that keeping track of 2.5 inch rockets, guns, Hellfire's, etc).

Ditto this for my ground units (boots). Which weapons are they firing, at what rate, etc, etc.

Or is AATF simply modeled whereas the units themselves are doing all this themselves (behind the scenes within the game).

Also - I think the "mouse scroll" needs to be worked with - It seems slightly sluggish (this on two different XP systems).

An additional question - Can you direct individual fire teams to attack a specific target?? - Or do they simply engage on their own once within range?

Additionally in the sieze the airfield Op - Guys within the 1-502 Inf all seemd to be armed only with Rocket M136 84mm (but no M-16's??). At least that is all that is showing - However when one reads the "firing log" it does show M-16 , Saw firing taking place.

Also does the map only show the "red" fire lines from your forces toward the enemy?....or does it show colored lines from the enemy toward your forces as well?

Also I'm not quite sure how the armarment of differing units are decided and or kept track of within the game.

When you select a platoon or company, all of its subordinate vehicles, aircraft, and teams, are shown on the unit info panel at the top right of the screen. If you click on one, it will show all of the data for that vehicle/team. The weapons are all listed, with a status bar showing how much ammo they have. Clicking on the tabs at the top give you more detailed info about the status of the unit.

Using the TRP or Suppress action, you can direct the fire of companies, platoons, or even individual vehicles.

Finally in the sieze the airfield Op - Guys within the 1-502 Inf all seemd to be armed only with Rocket M136 84mm (but no M-16's??).

That is not the case. Check the weapons list, using the procedures I describe above. If you still only see rockets, let me know and I will check it out. It might be a bug in the BETA.

Also does the map only show the "red" fire lines from your forces toward the enemy?....or does it show colored lines from the enemy toward your forces as well?

Red lines indicate both enemy and friendly firing. To see if it is incoming or out-going, look for the burst. If the burst is on your unit, you are being shot at.

Thanks for the answers/ reply Patrick -

I figured out how direct individual fire at specific targets via play testing -

Curious, (and I'm likely just missing it) but is there a simple way on the map to judge distance?.....How is CQC simulated exactly?

I'll double check on the weapons systems - To see if M-16's / M-4's are issued to the Inf units (I haven't seen any that I recall....yet they were showing up in the "fire / combat log".

Would also just like to add to all those thinking about this game - On the whole it looks excellent -

Just as on a military map, each square equals 1 kilometer/1000 meters. The highest zoom, depending on your screen size, is around 1:6,250

Infantry teams have a close combat "weapon" (I think it is called bayonet charge, or something like that). When units close to point blank range, they will use a combination of this and their small arms to engage the enemy.

Love the demo guys, can't wait to get into the full release version. The scroll is a little sluggish, not a massive problem though. Generally a very polished performance.:D

Meade95-
Make sure you have the grid square function turned ON. Each grid square is 1000x1000m, so you can easily estimate distances just by counting # of grids (if you are talking about multiple kms) or eyeballing 1/2 of a grid, 1/3 of grid, etc (if you are estimating meters instead of kms). That is the easiest estimator around.

That's it - I haven't had the "gird square function" turned on - Thanks for the heads up -
