View Full Version : Playing a scenario multiple times
Copying a thread from the Squad Battles section :) :
Do any of you gentlemen play a scenario more than once? Mirrored? From the same side?
Edit: Yeah, I know my poll could have better choices....
But you get the picture. :)

Yes I like to play the same scenerio more than once. But at a tounament I like to play new stuff that neither me or my opponent have played. I think you gotta try em more than once because you always want to tweek your setup or entry, try a new gambit, play somebody new who has a whole different way of playing. Some are just classics that deserve more than one playing.Kind of like chess openings and responses. Some scenerios deserve deep analysis and you can come up with some cool stuff for the next time.Or more than likely you wont screw up in the first few moves and make a game of it. Also you probably have a grasp on the special rules and vehicle notes after playing it once or twice.Than you can sit back and play with a minimum of nasty surprises. Ah yes the old classics, play em again for the first time.

If they are balanced for both sides and fun to play there isn't any reason not to play them as often as you like. If I had a dollar for every time I've played the old Talonsoft historical Gettysburg I'd have enough to buy another game or two but I always enjoyed it and they always could have gone either way.
I think I played the MG 44 Campaign several times as the allies and once as the Germans.
I took me more than one play to get the 1st AB to survive.
The PzCamp games are so complex (other than the smallest) that there are so many ways that a campaign can develop. (Some bad rolls when your engineers enter a minefield in a particular sector, a rough interdiction on some reinforcements, an unlucky, poorly timed assault....)

How did you get the 1st Airborne to survive?
I did not try and hold Arnhem in force. You can secure one of the ferries and slip most of the division across and establish a bridge head. You can hopefully link up with the US forces in Nijmegen.
I also send bridge builders up along the flanks to try and establish supply routes across the rivers because you will be forced off the drop zones.
I did send Frost and some AB into Arnhem as a forlorn hope, mainly to slow the deployment of the 2nd SS south.
PS - this is also why I like reading AAR's in the game reports. What worked and what did not.

I don't play individual scenarios very often, as there are simply so many more that I still want to try. However, winning easily in a scenario that is fun (for me) often makes me want to try the other side too, preferably against the same opponent.
(That goes for Panzer Campaigns where there is this huge number of games and scenarios, enough to last even an active player a lifetime. In the series's with only a few titles, such as EAW or Nappy, I have played some scenarios several times, even frequently (in EAW).)

Personally, I find Sicily '43 infinately replayable.
I truely enjoy the battle from both sides and seem to pull it out every few weeks just to try something new that has occured to me.
To be honest, as I have researched the history, I am beginning to see Crete in the same light. Tremendous games PzC and very replayable.

Jeff .. .how do you win as the Germans in Crete? Seems that they get plastered.
i do, even against the computer, when i'm playing for the first time then i usually try to play it best i can and i take it very seriously
but i like playing again and again (especially long scens) and then i usually try to make different choices and decisions, not necessarily the best ones, or when i'm playing the german side i can sometimes pretend i have direct orders from hitler - "no matter what happens you must capture/destroy/hold...", or i deliberately not notice certain things on the battlefiled simulating certian problems in the command chain, etc.. - which may create very interesting situations, not seen when i was playing seriously for the first time
