View Full Version : Which (terrain-)MOD do you use?
With some excellent MODs available :hail:, I'm curious which ones people favor. My main interest is the terrain MODs (not counters, GUI, etc).
I'm staying with the Classic Graphics set that comes as an alternative to the default TOAW III one. Can't get used to any of the mods available.

Same, only made a minor mod for my Vietnam scenarios based on the old graphics, can't even get used to the new TOAW ones
Ahem, i am using my Mod (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1197).. Well, it's not been built from scratch but i used various files from other mods and some original TOAW ACOW files and modified them "al gusto".
I also dont't like the new TOAW3 style very much (sorry JMass)..

I'm using a mix of old ACOW mod's (also consider it as my mod even if i didn't create any single thing...)
The bulk of my stuff is of the JMass brand but I also use a few pieces from GJK, Larry Fulkerson, Telumar, and some exsisting stuff I modded slightly myself. I also use the old marbled green interface from ACOW as of late, it somehow strikes me as having a more "military" kind of look to it

I use Jmass "3D" mod but he didn't made all terrain... it's superb but I didn't used all his stuff...

*opens up his alt graphics file to see*
I use the old CoW terrain, with differnet borders, RR I made myself (they stand out really nice :)), different broken RR that stands out red, the new, blue port symbols, and red airfields, which I also modded myself. Everything else is the old CoW stuff.
It's a nice bundle of different stuff.
Just want to add that i think the GJK terrain mod looks really god, though i don't use it as it feels so "un-TOAWish" anyhow.. :shy: It's more something for you old table-top wargamers out there...

I'd really like to see your own creations, in particular the railroads - any chance of you publishing them?

A mix of original terrain, with downloads and homebrew stuff, and of course ... square counters :p

Ditto. The word "cartoonish" comes to mind for all the rest. Norm's originals best approximate aerial photography. Realism rules.
Exactly how I feel, the feeling that it is actually looking down on the battlefield is great.Except, of course, my broken RR, as I need that to stand out.
Also, my RR and broken RR(this I didn't do myself), for MrMox. Just unzip the files into your alt graphics folder and prepare to actually be able to see your RR!!
Thanks! They look very good, will have to try them out.

I prefer to fight against one human opponent non against bad graphics. I want to be able to see if in one hex there is mud under the trees or if one railroad is broken, classic graphics is simply not clear. I have tried to make terrains like GMT games but the results don't pleased me, so I have made my mod as a compromise.

Should have downloaded 1st voted later....
Thankyou GJK your mod has breathed some new life in an old game by being beautifully retro.
brilliant
Same here. I've now converted to JMass's terrain mod + some of his GUI (numbers, steel cursors, movement arrows). The difference is astonishing - everything is sharp and clear, while un-modded TOAW now looks very fuzzy by comparison.

"Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally."
