View Full Version : AATF task switch crash
AATF is even less screen-saver friendly than ATF was. Allowing a screen saver to come on means a guaranteed crash. Turn off your screen saver if you anticipate having to use the potty.
:toilet:
Unlike ATF, doing a task switch using Ctrl-Alt-Del in fullscreen or alt-tab in windowed mode also reliably causes a crash. If the boss should come by, kiss your game goodbye.
:sneak:
It would be nice to have these fixed before gold, but at a minimum it should be mentioned in the readme.

Maybe you should be doing work instead of playing games...:halo:
Hope you didn't get in trouble.

KB,
Thanks for the bug report. The screensaver definitely should NOT be coming on. If you don't mind, are you using one of the standard, windows screensavers, the hybernate mode, or a custom screen saver? Which windows or custom screensaver are you using?
If you would prefer to give this data offline, e-mail me at:

Thanks again.

Win2k SP4. It's the standard 'Login' screensaver available from the 'Screen Saver' tab of the Display Properties. It activates on a timeout and 'password' is on.

How could I resist after all the prerelease hoopla?
I was just speaking hypothetically. Happily, I don't have a boss; not with regards to my business, anyway. I do occasionally visit the WC, in case there are any lingering doubts on that score.
For those playing covertly, better turn down the sound before the ProSim splash screen. That'll cause some cube-farm prairie-dogging for sure.

...cube-farm prairie-dogging...
That's definitely a new AATF feature. These guys never cease to amaze me.

Is AATF supposed to allow alt-tab switches between other windows applications? I was trying to do up an AAR with some 'print screen' maps and the game would crash even time I tried alt-tab'ing out of AATF with a screen shot (like kbluck was reporting above).
Given that the Demo doesn't allow SAVED games, its impossible to capture in-game screen shots without losing your whole operation (and I was kicking butt on LZ EASTWOOD :lier:)
Thanks.

Sorry brother.:upset: I will have that policed up before release.
In the meantime, you can use the windowed mode (which you CAN safely alt-tab out of) to do screenshots.

Pat-
how do I start or use the 'windowed mode'?
thanks.
I think i can help you here James as i asked Pat the same question recently. On the main menu goto options, tick the windowed mode box, return to the main menu and go for play the game and that should do it.

Copy that EDS. Thanks much!

Actually, you can't. Or, at least I can't, at least not easily. Even in Windowed mode, Alt-Tab is suppressed and the mouse won't willingly leave the window. If you're quick enough with the mouse hand you can swipe the mouse rapidly out of the AATF window and click on something in the fleeting instant (you have maybe a quarter-second) before the AATF window "recaptures" the mouse pointer and pulls it back. Once the AATF window has lost focus, you can Alt-Tab normally, but it usually requires a few tries to hit what you're aiming at with the mouse.
Attempting to Ctrl-Alt-Del to the Task Manager crashes the game when you return to desktop, whether or not AATF has focus.

A small addendum; once you've managed to switch away from AATF, Alt-Tab is *still* suppressed even when some other app has the focus.

You might have to stop the clock in order to alt-tab out of the game in windows mode.
Again, we plan to have this cleaned up before release. This is just a BETA "sneak preview".

No, clock state makes no difference.

Maybe a BETA demo was a bad idea.

Negative. Its a great idea. I will shut up with all my dumb questions :hush:. Charlie Mike ProSim!

Keep the questions coming!
We are not done with the game. I have already added some late changes based on comments from the forum. I just hate when anything I make crashes on anyones computer, even if it DOES have BETA on the front of it. :(
