a bit of help needed with this.i have looked everywhere in the game notes/guide etc and cant find info on which guns are represented by which counters.which guns are better for infantry and which for artillery?.i am guessing that the shorter range artillery is better against infantry is that all there is to it?.

I believe if you right click on the back of any of the gun sections it will tell you the type. In the old Talonsoft days the Napoleons used to be better against infantry then the Parrots but I'm not sure if that is still the case in the HPS games.
your smoothbores, Napoleons & Howitzers are best vs infantry but are also good counter battery fire, they just have a limited range...your rifled stuff has a greater range but isnt as eff. vs infantry..........and of course your big naval guns are h**l on everything!!!!
Open a scenario, click on help, and select parameter data. All the Gun tables are listed there to help you figure out values.

Related question: When you overrun a battery of your enemy's artillery during a battle, are five shots per gun removed from his stash? Similar to how five shots each are added when artillery reinforcements arrive?
