Greetings,
Now that I took the plunge and purchased H:ANW, I have a question:
How many platforms (sub, ships, aircraft) are modelled in H:ANW? From how many nations?
Just curious.

The number of countries varies from database to database. If you are using the Original DB [ODb] that comes with the game, it has about:
40 countries, 240 aircraft, 390 ships, and 60 submarines.
Other databases like the PlayersDB have:
90 countries, 1800 aircraft, 1500 ships, and 300 submarines.
Not all databases are indexed by country. However, most of them are.
You can also make your own database. The upper limit is 32,767 countries, 32,767 ships, 32,767 planes, and 32,767 subs.
Welcome aboard, shipmate!

Now that I took the plunge and purchased H:ANW, I have a question:I've just purchased as well. Looking forward to installing the WW2 DataBase and giving it a go. I'm sure I'll be posting some questions too.

Are they offering a special rate to SZO and other forum administrators this week?

LOL! :clown:
Hey, Herman,
What do you think are some of the more worthwhile changes made to H:ANW from other editions?

Some of the best new features, IMO, are:
1) Launcher utility - allows players to quickly and easily switch between databases. You can play a WWII scenario and then play a Cold War scen right afterwards with a couple of clicks.
2) Scen designers will like many of the new features that help create scenarios. Some might be simple bug fixes, but others are truly new features previously unavailable. For example, scen writers can now insert units over and over, again, with the rudimentary copy function instead of having to go through a click-intensive procedure.
3) Ability to take advantage of monitors with higher definition capabilities.
4) Multi-player! No longer are you simply pitting yourself against the machine. Now, you get to go up against the wiliest opponents around. Let me warn you, there are some pretty sneaky bastiges lurking in the Harpoon world just waiting to pounce!

Is there a way to save your preferences when exiting the program? I always seem to need to reset them (such as turning off the video) each time I start the game.
EDIT: Never mind. I see in the manual that you need to edit a file to make these prefs permanent.

As you can see from the attached image, you can select many command line options to turn off things like the Intro.
I like to start the launcher from the black and gold Harpoon3 [H3] icon.
Within the game, you can also save your window setup if you like your message window in one area, your Unit display in another....
Go under the Window menu, select Window Schemes and then Save Scheme.

Hey, thanks! I wasn't even aware of those abilities in the Launcher.
I've just purchased as well. Looking forward to installing the WW2 DataBase and giving it a go. I'm sure I'll be posting some questions too.
Welcome to Harpoon Double D!! :D
If either of you two get a chance you really should try an MP game, its alot of fun!

Is there a problem with the Air Lane Raiders scenario? I just tried to play it but, for some reason, my TF05 seems to have only two helicopters to its name! How can I maintain a CAP when I don't have any air assets that belong to the TF or the two airbases?!? Am I doing something wrong?

You are correct. The orders for AAW and CAP missions are incongruent with the assets you have been provided. However, if you concentrate on the MISSION, you should still be able to accomplish it with the forces you have on hand.
This is one of the very first scenarios created for the game. Obviously, the scenario has not been thoroughly reviewed prior its latest release with the ANW game engine. A number of other scenarios and tutorials suffer from the same problem.
Just think of it this way, many real commanders probably get weird or [nearly] impossible orders, too. You just have to Deal With It.

Okay, thanks. Just as long as I wasn't doing something wrong. I figured it was me because I never heard of a TF putting to see with just two choppers. Strange....
