What's the best way of employing snipers?

So far I've briefly employed them as expendable scouts but soon abandoned the practice as they tended to perish far too fast when spoted by the enemy and have long since adopted to using a split 9 man waffen grenadier squad for recon purposes.

I'd hate to totally pass off what could be a potentially very usefull unit but I'm at a loss as to what other tasks I could use them for. Any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I mainly use em for scouting nevertheless. Just keep em FAR as they see well and (or) sneaking in forests. I had many times whem my sniper was laying hiding in tall pines while a platoon of infantry ran almost over him and he counted ;)

Also just plain support like an mg yet almost unseen in a tall building for example, better with an officer nearby. Especially vets. Panices quickly inf in open, pins guns, kills tank commanders from 100-200 meters (rarely more) - works good.

Try to buy a soviet mountain company in '43 once, you'll see you wont regret too much you have got 6 cheaper snipers! :)

Sneak and hide is the snipers game! Tall buildings and woods are a snipers friend.

I have a sniper type scenario (PBEM/TCP) I need playtesters for, interested?

i usually use em in defence to monitor the enemy advance.
