I really bought the game to shoot at people. Is anyone doing that or is it all solo campaign play?

Tom we are setting up a ladder for the game, also I am starting to try to play online. The ladder is in the setup stage so it will be a few days before it is ready.
As it is now we have been playing the AI as it is very good, and we have been learning the game.
I for one will play a online game with you if you want. Also look for Fishey. He is also wanting to play online , but I have been in and out the last few days and we could not get one going yet. but we intend to this next few day. Let me know and I will get with you and we can give it a go.

Daedalus, have you got teamspeak and a mic? If so I'd be interested in meeting up online. I can be around Friday night (tomorrow) until quite late British time.

Yea, I have all the above. I will be on quite late also. This would be a great time for us to play an online game and work out the kinks as we say so we can help the others if they need help that is.
Sound great I will be planing on meeting up ok. If you have a time just let me know and I will work around that also. I am -5 hours GMT

Fishey has been trying to get a online going also. I have just been on at the wrong time this week lol.

A friend of mine and myself have played this a few times online and it works very well. I just bought the full game yesterday and we will be most likely giving this another go within the next few days. We use Skype for our voice comms.

We are really looking forward to seeing the online community for this game take off. I see great potential there with a lot of people working together in tow different teams. Everyone controlling their own squadrons or divisions of ships. Kind of a paintball meets computer wargaming geek thing. :)

Don Maddox here at SZO wants a ladder set up which I hope would be 1 v 1 as well as team v team. We are working behind the scenes to get this up and running.

I'm also going to set up team speak tonight.

PM me when your online tonight....

I'm wanting to try my hand at an online battle this Friday night (tonight) after around 8 or 9 PM central time (that's 7 to 8Pm eastern time). I can pretty much play all night.

I use ICQ to set up online games including SPWAW.

If you have it, (ICQ) my number is 96-652-009, please put Distant Guns in the contact request.

If you don't have ICQ here is a link to the most current freeware version...

http://download.icq.com/download/

I recommend it for meeting players and setting up online games like DG until a game room with some kind of chat ability is set up for DG..

Thanks and hope to see some of you soon.

I heard fishy say hello last night but I was dealing with bedtime issues (5 year old daughter) and did not reply until he was off.

You can leave teamspeak up as while doing other things. Just be a little careful what you say.

Klank, Fishey and I are on TS and online now but things are a little odd... I think game data is struggling with more than 2 players. 1 on 1 seems to be pretty stable but with 3 on it's just... wierd... screenshots and reports later when the 3 of us are off.

EDIT: see my thread 'online gaming issue reporting' for some of the problems we encountered.

I tried getting on teamspeak Friday night. A couple of guys were playing a tank game with open mikes so it was impossible to contact other people. I did see Fishy and one other person on.

My understanding of teamspeak (I have been using Ventrilo) is that if lots of people talk no one hears anything. Since these two guys were talking all the time, or playing sound effects into thier mikes, no chat for me.

I did try muting them but was not able to get it to work. I will spend some time with the manual to see if I can do something to get an open channel, if anyone has suggestions please post them.

Thanks,

Tom

I have an extra computer that I am setting up. I am going to make a TS server with this one , It is not a large computer but it will do voice quite well. And I can make rooms on it so we will not have this problem.
Between the two servers we should have enough slots for voice and so we will not be bothering each other.
I will try to have it up and running tonight, but I am working on getting my main machine reformatted and reinstalled so I can get back full time with that one.

I don't understand the problems you had on Fisheys TS server on Friday, Tom. Fishey has set up a basic meeting room (Turkish Bath its called) then there is a DG area with 4 rooms: bridge (general area), Russian, Japanese and a 1 on 1 gaming frequency. If you heard 2 guys playing a tank game then you were in the wrong area, stay in the Turkish Bath until other DG players show up or look to see if anyone is in the DG area and go there (just click that frequency button to move yourself there).

I have been online both Friday and Sat night but met only Fishey and Klank before I had to quite (the 5 or 6 hour time difference is a bit of a killer so we need more UK based gamers to get mics and get on the TS server).

Daedalus, while your suggestion/offer of another DG TS server is very generous I think we ought to stick with Fisheys one for the time being as there are not enough DG players using TS yet and if there are 2 servers we'll only miss each other :)

The TS server is public with a few password protected areas. If you look closley you will see several different rooms. Upon entering you start in the 'Turkish Steamroom' (main TS) by simply double clicking on the Distant Guns room you will find yourself in the main DG room. From here there are yet another 4 rooms to use specific to DG, as Saddletank said.

Also the toolbar at the top contains several options, including a 'self' pulldown with an away and mute option for when you step out or need silence.
