View Full Version : Breaking Parole or Limited Names?

I've recently started capturing neutral merchants with names I've seen before. For example, I've captured Eidelborn 3 times now, and Hongkong and Condrington twice each. So I have a question....
Have these ships broken their parole, overpowered my prize crews, and returned to their illegal gun-running? Or does DG just have a limited stock of names for neutral merchants? If the former, then I'm afraid I shall be forced to begin unrestricted commerce warfare and serve the neutrals with guns and torpedoes just like the Japanese marus, if I could only figure out how....
Hi,
could be this is a variant of the bug I described here:

But because the neutrals not being sunk, they appear fine, when they spawn (again). Maybe you should search you game log for the ships in question and sent it to suport if you too find something like I found in my game log (f.e. ship is dead, regenerating ship or something similar)

I assumed the game had a limited ship name database. It's a pity as it breaks the immersiveness. I'm sure that if Norm had capacity in the game's ship name database for more we could all supply him a whole raft of in-period nation-specific names.

Yeah, I checked my game_log and found some regenerated ships, both IJN marus and neutrals. However, some of the neutrals I've captured multiple times weren't listed as regenerated.
However, I have found your "ghostship" IJN marus, both of which WERE shown as regenerated. First I met the undead E. Maru, which orginally went down SW of Assan Basin under Bogatyr's guns. 2 days later, she was spotted heavily damaged in the middle of the Takeshiki minefield, and she promptly sank again without a shot fired. Later that same day, I encountered the undead D. Maru at the west end of the Tsushima Straits. She'd been nailed 3 days before by Novik at the other end of the straits. In both cases when they 1st died, I circled the wrecks until they actually went under and the battle ended, just to make sure they were dead, so I don't think my crews overclaimed their destruction originally :). Plus, the game_log says they were dead and regenerated.
Oh yeah, I sent this to ES ;).

the game is reusing names and such. If you look through the game log and see something to the effect of "Ship dead, respawn" its reusing the spot in the variable list.
This may be a good place to allow for some moding of names to take place! We will look at this as a possibility.
