Hi all,

Having great fun playing this game and have just started my 1st campaign. I have gone the Russians in the One hundred Victories campaign which starts off with the Japanese suprise attack on Port Arthur. That was fine.

The next battle was my very own version of Chemlupo (er..not sure thats spelt correctly) with my crusier and gunboat trying to out run 8 Destroyers. My gun boat was qucikly caught and crippled and sunk by the destroyers but my Cruiser ended up sinking 7 and seriously damaging the other one suffering some light damage in the process.

The result was a victory for me but when I got back to the campaign screen the TF icon for that TF was missing but I could see the Japanese TF icon. So I was just wondering what has happened to my cruiser? The Div commander was on the gunbaot so is in all likelyhood dead. Could this be the reason why? or would a new Div commander be promoted from my cruiser.

I was kind of hopeing my cruiser would make it back to a safe haven and then spend the rest of the war disrupting Japans Sake supplies but looks like it may have gone blind after celebratiing victory with anti freeze after the vodka was hit by a stray shell :D

p.s as an aside. I've been following this game since around january and always intended to go the Japanese having spent 2 months out there before xmas. However, I find the Russian side much more apealing at the mo and their warships look so much better than the Japanese. SO which side did you intend going and has that now changed you have the game in your hands?

What version of the game do you have? Back in 1.000 and the 1st couple of patches, ships would sometimes vanish into thin air. The Chemulpo cruiser Varyag was one of the main ones affected, especially after the gunboat Koreyets died. So if you haven't done so already, be sure you're online when you start the game, so you can download the latest version (1.015 at present) which includes the fix for the "Vanishing Varyag bug.

If you've got 1.015, then hover your mouse over the IJN TF flag. This may open the flag into a dropdown of several flags showing your TF is also in that hex. When Russian and Japanese TFs are in the same hex, sometimes the campaign map shows a 1/2 Japanese, 1/2 Russian flag there, but this doesn't always happen. Sometimes you see just 1 flag or the other, even though multiple TFs are in the hex. Also try zooming in the campaign map, which shows white numbers to the left of the flags indicating the number of TFs in the hex.

And if that doesn't find Varyag, then maybe the bug is back and you should send the saved game and the game_log.txt file to support@stormeaglestudios.com.

I've always intended to play the Russians. This is mostly because on the naval side of things, they have the burden of attack, even though in the land war they're on the defensive. Besides, I've always thought they could have done better in real life with better leadership :). But after playing the Russians and finding it relatively easy to round up the required merchants, I'll be trying a Japanese campaign shortly.

Thanks for the reply Bullethead. I am using the latest version, 1.15, so it may be a bug. Whne the battle ended I did see the Japanese flag but no russian evan after clicking it. I'll send in my saved game and the log file as suggested but the game has advanced a day or two so I hope it is still useful.

I had a quick look at the Japanese campaign last night and there appears to be alot more going on with all the merchants doing there thing. I'm intruiged as to why all the Eurpoeans were helping the Japanese and not the Russians not being to well read on turn of the 20th century politics. No doubt it has something to do with their respective empires and trade. I wonder if they were sending supplies to Russia through Europe? Wouldn't suprise me, but I digress :D

Well I am looking forward to trying the Japanese campaign but still enjoying the Russian side at the mo. What would be a good feature would be a fleet status screen showing the current state of each ship, location, how much tonnage they have sunk etc with an option to click on that ship and that will select that ships TF on the campaign screen.
