Ok well big stupid me has hosed my TOAW3 I guess. It locks up now every time, if i try to open any scene or game (in hotseat, saved game, email, any---I can get the splash screen, but can't open anything. It locks up and I have to reboot) In a nutshell, I hosed it trying to plop my own songs as background music.

Here's the lowdown: Thinking I was smart, I figured I could put my own songs as the background music. I like background music / battlesounds ON, but was tired of the same ol music. So, I ripped a song, converted it to OGG format, and plopped it in place of MUSIC1.OGG (renamed the original to BAK JIC) thinking HEY COOL NOW I CAN ADD MY OWN MUSIC AS BACKGROUND.

NOT!!!!!!!!! Game has locked up ever since. I've tried re-re-naming the original OGG file back to its state, but I think I've pissed off the powers-that-be. No Love. Game over man.

So, I'm thinking I need to uninstall/re-install, but I downloaded the game and have never ordered the physical disc. I don't mind ordering another copy, but was hoping maybe someone with more technical knowledge can offer another solution to cure whatever I've done. I'm pretty sure I don't have the original install I downloaded, but I will look.

:-(

Lesson Learned: Don't mess with the Tank if all ya know is how to drive it.

found this lurking on my HD, I *think* this is the installer......

should I "remove program", "uninstall" and Press My Luck with this?

I have my original serial numbers, will they still work?

ARGH!!!!!!! <SOB> :-*(

Your release install program should be there, OperationalArtofWarIII-SetupRelease-DR. Maybe move it to a temp folder and unistall the game if you have to.

well trying to avoid a re-install.....and all the patching. I'd rather know what went wrong........

did a system restore, then looked again in the /sounds dir. and found that the music0.ogg file had been renamed music0.ogg.ogg so I truncated the extension back to music0.ogg and VOILA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

Lesson Learned: mess with the sounds files at ya own risk. I think from now on I'll just drive the tank instead of messin' with the engine.

edit: ps thanks to y'all who so kindly emailed me with input and offer of help. Y'all are great!

Good to hear you managed to get the things right again. Maybe you could post in the support section at Matrix to know what you did wrong and for us all how to do it right..

I was reading the matrix thread first, so forget about my mail...
