I have attached the DEPLOY File for the Stritzling and Pleinting Battle to the 1st post in this thread.

Whoever will be the commander for this battle needs to download the file and load it using the WinSPMBT Scenario Editor and then deploy the available units "within the vicinity outlined by the 'X's and as mentioned in the 1st post of the thread.

Be sure to set the facings and ranges as your deploy file will become the main setup file for creating the Pbem battle file. Do not set ranges to 0 as the game engine sometimes automatically sets them to the default range when I add the other sides units into the file.

When you are done deploying, save the scen file, zip and reply to this thread making sure to re-attach the zipped deploy file to your post OR email it to me at doubledeuce@combat-campaigns.com

If you have any questions please ask.

All Arty is delayed arrival until Turn 2 so no side can pre-target possible deploy areas.

The actual Pbem File is being uploaded to the WP Forums. Please make contact with your opponent if you haven't already done so. You can do this via PM, email or posting in the open part of the forums.

REMEMBER: The Battle is to only go 24 Turns for FOW reasons. Once you complete Turn 24 you send me the file.

First reports are coming in from the front.

Units are deployed in a manner (hopefully) which allows me to respond to the threat(s). I will wait to see if I can identify the main thrust.

Second turn.

Spotted three brdm-2 spandrels in the NE corner of the map.

A M113 on the southern edge was hit by a standoff missile attack by a mig23.

A top hit but no damage, not sure how I survived that one!!

Next time I`ll have some better pics, and try and remeber how to imbed them into the post:o

How many Migs has he sent in so far?

One mig last turn with no damage.

this turn another firing a "Kerry" and hitting and destroying a M150!

Not sure what (if anything) I can do against the standoff attacks.

On the other side of the coin, Hit and destroyed a BMP2 (with the loaded infantry I think) with a M150.

Have spotted several units. One jeep, the two BRDMs, three BMP2s (inc the one destroyed) and two emch sections.

A Mil24 also spotted and recieved shots from the blowpipes. I think it is in retreat. Have plotted artilliery on the spotted enemy. See picture of current plan.

You have seen at least a PLT of BMP2s and a BRDM/ATGM plt. They are supported by Mi24s and Migs. I noticed that they were sporting Soviet markings. Are they all? It looks like you are up against a Forward Security Element. That's at least a company of BMPs plus tanks and AT assets.

Give them time to make the mistakes and let them taste the 155s. Offensive action is presently not recommended.

The migs are taking its toll.

One destroyed tank and M113, only 1 mech infantry casaulty from the M113 though.

7 BRDMs are now spotted, and several casualties caused on the spotted infantry by HMG fire.

Coming under 122mm D30 artillery fire. The hind is still in the air but again retreating.

Will site tight for a few turns now, though the enemy artillery is very close to my forces....

So, are you under attack by 1 or 2 Migs? How many Kerrys fired?

dita
30 Sep 06, 06:43
Hi,

This makes 3 mig attacks I believe. (the kill on the tank, the kill on the M113 and the non effective hit on the other M113) The migs Carry 2 Kerrys each I believe, looking at the encyclopedia.

So there must be two migs a least. These planes are not actually flying over the battlefield yet!, The blowpipes have no chance.

Due to counter satellite activity by the Pact forces there are no aerial shots of the battlefield (i.e. I forgot to load Fraps!)

Things not going well here.

The air superiority is really takings its toll. At the end of this turn a Su17 conducts a standoff attack and...POW! One less leopard.

Also lost another leopard in the centre of the map from a BRDM. Took a shot at (moved one hex) missed then-POW! The same BRDM took the ATGM shot back.

The M24 hind took a couple of hits from the blowpipe, but is in only in retreat status. This one spotted around the north end of the map. Don’t they have an infantry carry capability? If so, I’ve a feeling the enemy is dropping off a blocking force near my rear!!

I think there are two helos.

Perhaps a retreat maybe called for? Certainly I’m consolidating the positions now. I think the route is open on the south side of the map towards the artillery, so I will advance infantry to that area with caution. All other units will hold positions. It’s difficult to fight the urge for revenge.

The air is a major problem.... Dispersal has no effect against the guided standoff weapons.

Ouch. Like I said last post, the air superiority of the pact forces is very strong.

At the end of this turn, SU17 conduct another standoff attack, fortunately unable to obtain a lock on. A close one that...

However, a Mig23 comes flying and and destroys the last tank....but pays the price and targeted by blowpipe and desroyed. It had certainly taken its toll on the Canadian forces

During the turn, another tank is destroyed by a hind. A "pop up" attack I suspect from 1950metres ! As suspected

Destroyed two BRDMS by M150, this was eventually targetted and destroyed by a T64B that appeated on the distant hill 460. As suspected, a BMP appears on the northern edge of my forces, flanking me and attempting to cut the escape route, (in the process hitting and destroying a M113). Appears on right near the edge of my original deployment area, must have scooted right round..

Moving some of the advanced forces back. Will hold the forces in the middle. Have now also been hit by 120mm mortar fire.

Break contact and withdraw. You have lost all your tanks and most of your ATGMs. Make liberal use of your arty. The batteries held for CB fire are released to you.

Rodger that.

Sorry about this battle, those migs just totally fluffed it up. No defence against them!!!

My opponents away for a few days. In the mean time, how do I declare my forces have withdrawn. Move all the units to the "retreat" hexes then let DD know?

hey DD, I'm a bit fuzzy on the disengagement rules myself. Clarification?Normally you must physically exit your units off the map, and try to survive the 24 turns. You can't "call timeout" and abstractly withdraw BUT since everyone is still kinda learning the rules AND there are some Game Engine restrictions (cannot exit off North or South edge) I have to make some adjustments to the rules as we go.

Overall you accomplised an important part of your mission wich was to "Gain and maintain contact with the enemy" and to identify his units. This was done despite heavy casualties caused by enemy air attacks. All part of the "BIG PICTURE" LOL Do a little analysis of the battle and be ready for the next mission.
