which one 'really' is the one closer to reality........the 1000 man/8 units standard HPS pdt or Frosts revised to 700 men/6 units?

If I switch will the 700 man limit work with all the other games (Getty, Shiloh, etc)?

First off, any changes you make will effect games played with others, so you have to make sure both players are on the same page.

If the OOB is not designed with this change in mind you will have a very clunky operation. Essentially what you will end up with is 1 or 2 regiments to hex...almost never getting near the 6 limit. However you could try this out with Doug's "break down" oob's in Gettysburg. Not everyone likes them though as the counters are significantly increased.

Personally I'm fine with the 1000/8 settings.

see what you mean........in the Mills Spr. Campaign scen you have (as Rebs) 2 reg that are over 700 men, if you play with a 700/6 pdt they cant move from their start hexes!!!!! I think I will stick with 1000/8 for now and just use Frosts modified fire effects.

Personally I don't use any mods... Like these games as they are.

1000/8 is fine. With recently added optional rules: Density Fire Modifier and Full Melee Defensive Fire it's not a good tactics to stacks units to the very maximum stacking. Best is too keep a line of max 650 men per hex. You can stack more men when you are going to melee but then you can receive a really telling volleys. Few days ago I saw on the replays as my 6 gun battery of napoleons claimed twice over 100 men from such max stacking melee parties.

When Density Fire Mod. is checked, then the fire against a target hex with more than 2/3 of the max stacking is increased, up to a maximum of 150% at maximum stacking.
