The only way to get more arty ammo is if you have reinfocements coming on...then you get 4 more round per battery as they arrive.

The key is learning to conserve your ammo, as much as you can.

If you are concerned about ammo
1) Don't take long range shots
2) Don't take shots with 1 gun batteries
3) Don't take shots with "D" batteries

Of course, any of those can be "broken" on a case-by-case, but since those shots tend to give you less "bang" for the buck, those are lesser shots.

On the other hand, if I have a flanking shot from long range, when my infantry already hit that unit fairly hard, I'd probably take the arty shot, just to add to the morale check modifier

you may want to adjust the AI artillery range to medium. The AI will shoot at anything in range you give-so medium range conserves ammo

I dont use AI.......I do all my own moving, shooting......just got to learn to pick my shots a little better and back off some of the long range pot shots!

What he's referring to is the automated Defensive Fire. That said, it's entirely possible to have the game set with manual defensive fire (though pbems are rarely played that way).

You can also edit the scn and add more ammo.

Of course, this is only in reference to a game against the A/I... a pbem game should only be changed if both sides are in full agreement.

I understand Gary...........dont have any PBEM's going on yet.......just me vs comp and one (internet hookup) I just started with another Tiller CivWar convert from CivWarGenerals 2. Trying to get another one hooked up also....both of these guys went to high school with me and we go back to the old SPI counters and map sheet days playing CivWar!

Where do you change this?

Go to the A/I menu, and select "Adjust Auto Defensive Fire". You can set the range for artillery and infantry fire.
