View Full Version : The curse of the "Pallada", or why we need a "torpedo cease fire" button

It happened three times in a row! The "Pallada" sunk torpedoed by the "Novik":

The third time it was a near one. Or double near one :-D

And once I lost the "Boyarin". Guess who put a perfect two-torpedo salvo into her?

Basing on the above, I respectfully ask to introduce a "torpdedo cease fire button", or some "avoid friendly fire" logic - in the same game one of the IJN destroyers ventured into my formation. One of the rearmost battleships became active and instantly fired on the destroyer, not minding that the "Tsesarevitch" blocked the view. Result: three 305mm point blank direct hits!

I'm in total agreement on both points:

1. Friendly Gunfire
The AI needs to stop shooting when friendly ships are so close to the line of fire as to be in the danger space of the salvo spread. While you can argue that in the wild night surprise attack at PA, such fire discipline wouldn't hold up, you can't say that for engagements in broad daylight, where friendlies constantly absorb most of the shells meant for enemies.

2. Torpedo Cease Fire
There are so many reasons why we need this, such as:

To prevent friendly fire incidents, not only in Port Arthur, but also in actual battles. For example, when ships are in a line of bearing formation and fire torps to the same side as the rest of the formation.
To prevent wasting torps on pointless shots, such as full-speed enemy DDs
To conserve torps while on commerce raiding missions
