Just played a campaign battle. Japanese [me] battleship in far north of battle area. Main Japanese battlefleet far south, 2 Russian cruisers and 8 destroyers in middle. The AI heads north at 18 knots straight into Jap BB. Could have gone east/west. Worse still the destroyers hold back as 2 cruisers sail by BB at 18 knots [even Askold] and get blown to bits. When they are sunk the destroyers sail past me at 18 knots until lead one is hit when they all go down to 14 knots for a while to match him. Meanwhile BB is firing torpedoes at DD's :-).
At no point did the destroyers either a) turn away b) reach top speed [27knots] to bypass me c) attack/fire torpedoes. It was simply a procession past the BB. With ranges down to a 1000 yards.
If the AI got it's act together I would have been swarmed and torpedoed or never caught them if they fled. Surely if the AI chooses to escape it can't be too difficult to make the ships use maximum speed?
cheers
