I just had a awesome battle , it was 8 CA,s aginst my 4 CA,a and they also had 2 DD,s to mess with. Well it was quite a battle and after a long fight that ended just about 5 minutes before sun set I sank the last of there ships. My ships managed to leave the battle with light damage over all, but one CA had Moderate damage but they seemed to repair most of that on there own. Here is a screen shot of just before I sank there last few ships.
I am having a blast getting to live a dream on the computer leading fleets into battle.

Yep. "Chiyoda" and seven protected cruisers are no match for the Vladivostok Cruiser Squadron.

I have met them in three different campaigns, and they were no match in each of them, save in one night engagement, which I described in the AAR subforum. This "Chiyoda" old armored cruiser looks interesting, especially when on fire :-D

yup,

My Vladivostok Force (3 Armoured Cruisers and one Protected Cruiser) encountered an enemy force of 2 AC, 7 PC and 4 DD. Fortunatly, I was sitting between them, having the two AC on port and the 7 PC and 4 DD starboard. I turned my line against the second force, running away from the two AC (they were out of range). After the first clash, 3 DD were sinking and several PC damaged. A few hours later, the PC force attacked me again, with the AC still out of range. Our Lines were closing fast. The trick is to concentrate the fire on single ships, preferably the nearest. At ranges of 2000 -3000 metres, you can silence a great amount of weapons one ship after another in a short time. To make things short, the Japanes Navy lost 3 DD and 5 PC this day, the rest was damaged but escaped into the night. The pic shows the last PC I got, it sank shortly after.

Edit:

meanwhile, "Lyena" is beating up Auxiliary Cruisers. Got two of them within few hours. She`s low on 75mm Ammo now though

Still no merchants though...

edit no. 2: who finds the graphics glitch in the last two pics?

The glitch I see is that the auxilliary cruisers' commodores' flags are supposed to be on the main truck, but instead are hovering out in space about 15 feet away from the mast :).

Bingo!

:toast:

btw. I like it how the flags are effected from wind as you can when ships are being slow. Small but nice effect.

Well now I have stepped into it. I have two of my BB,s and some DD,s that I was using as raiders on shipping ,that have been chased down by what looks like the whole Japanese Battle fleet.
I was trying to make a run from them but two of my BB,s are fine, the other one is damaged and will only do 10 knots. I guess it will not make it out. But I am hoping that I can at least damage there flag ship before it gets wiped off the ocean.
I am having a blast playing this, and now I see how hard it must have been for some of the commanders to have to make a choice on what to do. When you know your choice is going to cost the lives of most if not all of the men on a ship it makes you think, that is for sure.

Actually when playing the Russian campaign, I find myself having the tendency of not committing my capital ships due to the fear of losing them. I am actually starting to think like Admiral Stark and Admiral Vitgeft did in 1904, that is the fear of leaving a safe anchorage like Port Arthur.

Yea, I am having to make myself commit the fleet to battle. But I am trying to do it on my terms not theirs.

But I think I am in up to my eyes on this one lol.

Well,

I finally tried to let some BB`s sail. I put the 3 fast BB`s into one Taskforce. I hope with their 18 knots max. speed they are fast enough to outrun any overwhelming forces. My hope is to engage this slow force with 4 PC and Chin Yen.

So far they sank 2 Auxiliary cruisers and one Maru.

Last night I had some bar knife-fight with the Vladivostok force involved. I found myself in the middle of 22 TB. only three got away, only minor damage to my cruisers, but sweating like hell `cause they had to to some manouevering to avoid the torps.

On Mar. 6, My count is:

Japanese losses:

23 DD
5 PC
9 Aux
8 Merchants

Mine:

Only two cruisers from the Port Arthur attack.

My plan is to keep the Japanese fleet busy, wearing them slowly down. F.E. Varayag dragged around 6 BB for quite some days. Of course I`m bagged, if I run into one major force at night.

But so far, I`m doing not that bad, I think

Yea, looks like you are doing about the same thing I am, I have three BB,s and two groups of DD,s hunting shipping.
I got cought by a big task force of BB,s and they are after my hide. But two of my BB,s are fast enought to get away with the DD,s, My one damaged BB,s I thought was a goner but so far it looks like I might get awaw with my skin still intact. I am going to send them back to port if I can and get them fixed before sending them out again. I found that sending them out damaged, is not the way to go.
