13th February 5 Battle ships of remade 1st Pacific Squadron, consisting of battleships Petropavlovsk, Poltava, Sevastopol, Peresvet and Pobeda encountered the IJN squadron...
That was a shiny day, and sea waters were unbelieveably calm.
Petropavlovsk crew spotted the big smokes on port - these were the Admiral Togo and his 6 battleships (plus 2 CAs).
Battle begun when Russian BBs opened fire withthin 12000 meters. (Russians were doing 16 knots, while more faster IJN BBs were closing at 18 knots). The 305mm shell from Poltava hit IJN flagship Mikasa to the deck near her main turret, causing some light damage...
When battle distance was cut to 6000 meters, IJN forces begun to turn by sucsession going parallel to Russian battle line. At that time Mikasa was moderately damaged, cuz she also was hit by two 254mm shells from Peresvet and Pobeda, as well as another three 305mm shells from Petropavlovsk and Poltava. All main guns of Mikasa were silent, and only like three or four 8'' were still on duty.
Petropavlovsk, Poltava and Peresvet were only lightly damaged, on each of first two ships one 8'' twin turret was destroyed.
But the battle conditions begun change, cuz only one ship of oppjsing force was also lightly damaged - it was Asahi. Other IJN BBs were still untouched...
To be continued.
