View Full Version : Problem with demo
My brother downloaded the demo and tried to load it. Well it would not load and the demo locked up his computer.
I tried to load it for him as he is not a big computer freek like me , and I had the same thing happen. I had to do a restore.
Now it runs on my machines and then only thing I can find that may be doing this is he has a Wide Screen monitor.
20inch I think it is.
If any one has any ideas on this let me know as he loves this type of game and will buy it if I can get it working for him in demo mode.
But other than the wide screen monitor his system is about as a normal setup as one can get. Help Please. :)

Make sure his screen resolution is set to at least 1024x768

Ok, thanks.
You do mean set the Res to 1024x768 before we try to install the demo?
I will try this when he gets home tonight and see if we can get another buyer.
Thanks for the help

Yes, set his resolution to 1024x768 before you run the demo.

The installer also locks up on my computer (unpacks, then hangs - I waited around 10 minutes, it did nothing....)
My resolution is set above 1024x768; I'm running Win XP64, which may be the issue.
(Edit to spell "above" correctly. :) )

The 1024x768 setting was for a Wide Screen monitor that we where working with. This may not apply to you.
The Wide screen monitors use a wierd driver that caused a probem . But when you drop back to a normal setting it works.
But setting to 1024x768 will not hurt in setting up. But the Win 64 may be a issue, as I have not seen anyone using this with the game.

James :
If the installer locks up, most likely you have one of your 16 Bit system files corrupted.
Here is the FAQ link...

Ah... that suggests that the explanation is:
The Distant Guns installer is (or part of it is) a 16-bit program.
Windows XP64 will not run 16-bit programs (any of them, period).
Therefore, the installer cannot execute on WinXP64.
