Howdy All!
I have been playing the demo since it came out. My system is as follows
3.4 Athlon 64
2GB DDR 400 RAM
PCIe 7800GT Video
During my time on the demo, I was able to play 4XAA 4X Anistro and 1600x1200x32 with all the graphical options on their highest settings. My frame rates were 68-75 FPS until the last two levels of zoom in at which time it would drop to 38-40 FPS. Of course these results were very pleasing and playable.
Yesterday I purchased the product. In the act of starting the game up for the first time after registration, the auto-update brought me from version 1.01 to 1.03 and then started the game. I don't know what happened between these versions, but now I get 15-16FPS at all zoom levels and with all graphical settings. The number of ships is not a factor in these speeds as they are consistant in large and very small battles.
I lowered all settings to their medium, then minimal amounts. I turned off Anistro and AA. I tried 1024x768 and 1280x1024 and every combination of the above mentioned settings. At all setting combinations I get 15-16 FPS with an absolute max of 16.0FPS
I haven't made any driver changes or other system program changes since installing the Demo, and my OS is only 3 weeks old and clean as a whistle. In trying out COD, WOE, and SH3 they all are running at the same high frame rates they had been (all run in 1600x1200x32) and show no issues, so I know it's not a system problem.
If anyone has any possible solutions or insights, they would be greatly appreciated. I loved the demo and the system design and was happy to purchase the game. Unfortunatly, I can't enjoy the product until I figure this out. Thanks very much!

Post or email via private message your customer number.

There is now difference between the demo and the game.

After discussions with Jim, I donwloaded the "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer" from the AMD support page. I have an AMD 64 3.5 Ghz processor. This application corrected the issue with Distant Guns and I think got me a few FPS extra to boot. Anybody who has any of the AMD 64 series processors should try this if they are having any issues. The same file is listed in the utility downloads of all of the 64 series processors (64, 64fx, 64x2, etc.) so it should work for all of them. Thanks for the constructive dialog Jim!

-Calvin, enjoying silky smooth Distant Guns

I tried that AMD fix for my Athlon 64 3700+. I maybe get an extra 1-2 FPS in RJW, but that's about it.

Wally:

IT appears that you need to upgrade your AMD Win XP drivers also.

It appears that you may have to update the AMD 64 Processor direvers as well. This should be done as a general rule anyway....
