Didn't have a lot of time last night, but I did get the chance to fire up Distant guns and get the patch downloaded. I then created a small computer generated scenario as the Russians....and the Japanese ran away. I tried again, slightly larger point value as the Japanese, and the Russians ran away. All in all I tried 6 times, different point values, both sides and the result was the same every time, the computer AI disengaged without firing a shot. Previous to the patch, the AI was never hesitant about engaging me.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

In the demo after the patch the AI is aggressive as ever.

I haven't noticed this. I've only played one CG battle since the patch and what a corker it was. I kept my 3 Japanese divisions in one line. The Russians steamed straight toward me but spent considerably longer getting there fleet organised into two lines. One line consisting of only destroyers. When the fleets came into contact, the Russians made the first move to cross the "T". However, they'd not closed up properly at the front so I decided to take advantage of this and broke through their line. Their defeat was the biggest I've managed to inflict. Toward the end the situation result was a "Glorious Victory," however a lone destroyer, which I didn't spot until it was too late, broke from the Russian line and successfully torpedoed a cruiser and she sank reducing my "Glorious Victory" to a substantial one. Another very late night in bed for me.

I posted something to this effect in the debugging post. Each time I've run a CG battle since the patch, all I get is a stern chase I end up losing. I haven't even gotten to fire a shot yet since the patch.

Same thing here. Generated a random battle and the enemy force simply fled the scene.
This is one of the buggiest release I have seen, I should have waited with the purchase. I only hope the game will be patched.

I stopped playing DG, back to Red Orchestra.

Same thing here - and mine's still the unpatched version. Each time it's been the same, i.e. I plot a course to intersect the enemy, only for them to turn about and sail off into the sunset. On a positive note, at least it's been a way for me to practice different manoeuvres, knowing that engagement isn't going to be likely! :D

Cheers

Nope,

just had a battle playing the Russian with 3 AC and 1 PC vs. 1 BB and 7 PC.

They turned around on me (which finally was a bad idea) as they got their formation messed up. Result: one AC lost due to torp attack, 6 PC sunk, only one PC and the BB got away.

I think it`s the basic logic (with the campaign in mind) of the game. If the odds seem to be in favour of the AI, they will engage, if it`s in favour of the player, they try to disengage.

But having played the Russians only so far, I never had problems chasing down a disengaging force, as I am mostly able to get 19 to 20 knots out of my cruisers and the Japanese forces mostly steam along at around 15 knots. They never had a chance to get away.

Until my main battle fleet simply vanished off the map I was actively being stalked by two cruiser forces all the way to Vladivostok. It was me doing the running and not the AI! The AI certainly doesn't seem lame to me, I have had a campaign full of engagements started by aggressive AI before and after the patch.
