View Full Version : Graphics glitch or bug? Submersible cruisers

Noticed this at the start of the 100 Victories campaign the day after the Port Arthur battle. Varyag is chased by a cruiser division, but on looking at the Japanese cruisers I noticed that most of them are submersed except for their funnels. Anyone else seen this? It wasn't a major problem - no crash involved, just looks odd.

Haven't seen that yet.

Must have been funny though to see funnels travelling through the water.

Reloading a saved computer-generated scenario, I had the battleship Navarin partially submerged, and with the funnels off-centre to starboard. Reloaded again, and all was well.

I got this on the first game I played - thought oh-oh, this aint gonna work, but ships eventually showed up - I reckoned it was to simulate the fact that over the horizon, only masts/funnels/smoke would show up first.

PS, love this game.

It's not a bug.
The submerged ships aren't yet visible, i.e. you can see funnels. When they come in sight they appear normally. Notice in the demo game the action starts with the rear most Russian ship in sight [if you are the japs].

If that was the case then how come two of the ships in the column, the one at the front and the one at the rear, were both fully visible on the surface. They were all cruisers of the same size so differing heights would not explain this.

Oh, it's a bug all right. But I think you may have nailed the issue. It could be that the vessels are distant, not yet visible to your forces, and some of the child objects associated with ships that should be completely invisible are not having their visibility status updated along with the rest of the ship as part of the limited intelligence logic.

The ships are not "submerged". If you look closely, the funnels are being rendered at the correct altitude above the water. They just shouldn't be rendered at all in this case if the ships should not be visible.

I've had a few cases where almost everything but the hull was drawn... guns, railing, etc... hovering along.
