What is your real life military experience? Thought it would be interesting to see this breakdown. I chose the breakdown of service you see in the US and hope it works for everyone who'd like to answer the poll.

It's a multiple choice poll if you've been in more than one service.

I was in the Royal Danish Airforce in 1990-1991 as a Hawk (AA missile) crew.

I started in 1972 in the Air National Guard working on RF-101 optical and infared cameras.

After 15 years I obtained a commission in the Navy Reserve, Civil Engineering Corps, where I've been for 19 years. Time to retire!

What part, the BigRedOne?

You got it, of course the Sapper reference might be enough to throw some off as well.

And 2054172, who says we're all out of it? Besides as I recall, you're the really dangerous one on the battlefield  !

205 like the rest of the Canadians, get the benefit of your strong US neighbors. Good thing too! Can you imagine your taxes if you had to staff a real military?!?! :p :cheeky: ;)

About 9 years ago there was a short Brit TV wargaming series "Games of War" in which a big tabletop map was set up in the studio and the players had to push plastic markers around on it. The two teams (different each week) consisted of assorted experts such as military writers, army college lecturers and even retired brass.
In short, they were mostly total crap at it !
They re-fought battles like Waterloo and the Crimea, and they made blunder after blunder, I sat there shaking my head unable to believe what I was seeing..
Incidentally I've got zilch military experience myself, I toyed with the idea of joining the Brit army once but decided I couldn't be bothered, I like giving orders, not taking 'em ;)

Your idea of military in the US is hit them with all the fire power we can muster then if that doesnot work we will pack up and go home. IE. Vietnam, Somila, now Iraq.
Thanks for coming out.

We take care of ourselves rather well and don't need the US for anything.

No experience whatsoever. Apparently you can get all muddy and covered in sand (it chafes) and people shout at you all the time.

Oh and I'm told reliably that getting shot really hurts.

You are some very brave people and I'll think of you while I'm sat in my air conditioned office. :cheeky:

We, the spoiled public, salute you.

Only 27 responses so far. Don't worry, you won't be drafted by the RL military regardless of your answer!:surprise:  ;) :p

34 years and still counting, although I have to get out pretty quick.

12 years ARNG from 1979-1991
Working on my last 8 now.
Oh, and BTW, 205, while I am reasonably proficient at my military job (Medic) , I will openly confess I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to strategy and tactics and stuff.
Refer to Nielm85uk's statement about you can get all muddy and covered in sand (it chafes) and people shout at you all the time.
That pretty much describes my military experience to a "T"! But baby powder and wet wipes help hold off the raging case of "cranky butt" that tends to crop up after several days in the field:clown: .
