Playing the full campaign version here. I'm getting a consistent lockup with black screen and CTD while playing as Russians with a mixed AC and Torp boat task force chasing down a Japanese neutral merchant - between sourthern Korea and Japan.

It starts with an alert message saying I've encountered the Shimonseki (so I thought great - a armed merchant to kill!) - but on closer inspection it appears to be a neutral merchant named Edelberg (or something like that) - so I cannot shoot neutrals. I give chase - it's a long chase even with a 17knots vs 9 knot speed difference.

I get tired of the chase and hit the End Battle button - then I get the blackscreen lockup and crash to desktop.

I have the saved temp file from the error report and the saved game if you want me to send them to you. Just give me a email address.

Otherwise I love this game to pieces!

I plan to sit down and look through any problem reports we have received sometime Monday. If you could also zip and attach any game_log.txt, saved_game_log.txt or crash_log.txt files you might find in your game directory, I would appreciate it.

I've gotten as far as Febuary 1904 as the Russians in the Campaign game. But now every time I load my saved game I get a black screen lockup. I have restarted the campaign all over a few times now with the same results.

Also in tactical battles I get black screen lockups too - usually when sinking Japanese merchants - it happens after I sink them but before I get the dialogue box.

The Varyag always disappears from the Campaign map - even though I successfully disengaged her from combat. I also noticed they start way too deep inland in Korea.

Perma-pause phenomenon. I load a saved game that I paused the game in - it loads but the game stays at pause - even when I use the pause button. Completely exiting the game seems to clear this up.

Easter eggs: loved the UFO! How about including Nemo's Nautilus or Robur's airship from Jules Verne? Time period is about right. It would test the knowledge factor of your audience too - LOL :D

Background music: I'm expecting American Sousa marching bad music next in the Spanish-American War expansion now.;)

Saw this in the ACG forim:

"Well, the installation went smoothly enough.

But, something went horribly awry both times that I ran DG.

Four or five minutes into the game(s), my C: drive turned itself off, the event announced by a clearly audible "click," the screen turned blue (with no error message), and I had to reset my computer.

NEVER seen or heard of that one before.

After rebooting the second time, I ran loops of 3D benchmarks to make sure that my hardware subsystems were okay (memory, video, sound, etc.,.) and they all checked out.

Then I went looking for some kind of support, and found NONE.

There are no forums and the documentation contained nothing of use as relates to my issue (or any other for that matter).

Since the game shutdown my HDD, I suspect that its a copy protection issue.

There were no crash logs since there was no drive to write a file to.

I uninstalled the game and will patiently await the publishing of "Distant Guns 2: Ready for Combat!"

Ouch! For such an extreme example I would almost believe it was classic FUD from a competitor. Offhand the only things that come to mind would be Starforce, Gameguard, or rootkit copy protection schemes (like Sony's) that might cause a problem like that.

Well back to gunning-about in DG for me!
