View Full Version : Install Problem
Downloaded the demo from SES site but when I run the selfextractor icon from desktop it unzips the files but generates the following message:
16 Bit Windows Subsytem
C:.windows/system32.autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application
File I downloaded is 279mb in siz, I am using Windows XP with no problems in any other area or game installs.
Any ideas as I really want to buy this simulator
I get the same message just after data decompression and just before it prompts to update direct X.
Yup, really frustrating and I sent a message to SES support who said they thought it might be a file corruption in the download, however, I have just downloaded the file again from a different mirror and same again.
I downloaded it from 3 seperate sites, still the same thing.
Gents:
I had the same issue last night. You have to shut everything down, reboot, and then try to install it(with nothing open). It works fine then.
Also you guys are all running XP and have met the prereqs correct?:)
I had that one before... there's a microsoft recommended fix for it. Lemme see if I can dig it up.
Here it is...
http://http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767
Dogbert, thanks for that link, however I don't seem to be able to open that site. Could you cut and paste the advice?
Nevermind, got there in the end and used the fix off the MS support website and am installing as we speak!
Thanks for the link Dogbert.
GAME ON!
Vipes, I must be slow but the only fixes that I can find are for editing the config.nt, autoexec.nt and command.com files. Is that right?
Yes thats right, as I don't have the Windows XP discs, if you go to the bottom of the page - follow the last set of instructions re - repairing the two files. I followed these instruction and am now playing the game! + have purchased it.:D
Vipes, looks like my .nt files are ok. What page on microsoft support did you find? Thanks
Follow these instructions to the letter as it worked for me.
1. Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\repair, and then click OK.
2. Right-click autoexec.nt, and then click Copy.
3. Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\system32, and then click OK.
4. Right-click anywhere in that folder, and then click Paste.
5. Right-click the Autoexect.nt file that you just copied, and then click Properties.
6. Click to select Read-Only, and then click OK.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 6 to copy the Config.nt file.
Note You must enable Read-Only permissions or the files will be removed after you restart Windows.
Thank you, Vipus, May your torpedoes run true. Your help was invaluable...
