View Full Version : (COMPLETE!) Round 2 stats and lineups
Thanks for the update, Mike.
Based on feedback here and in email, I'm extending the tourney a single week. Next Sunday we'll wrap it up.

Me and Fading Captain are on turn 19.
Should wrap it up tomorrow.
I received this report from Pierre:
Here is the final score in the Tigersqn/Fading Captain game.
German VP points: -458
German losses: 134
Allied losses: 53
What was the number of German objective points at the end? I think it would be 42 for a German score (in our terms) of -39 but I want to check it before I officially post it.

If I recall right, the Germans held 21 VP points. Should have been one, but there was a blasted tiger unit in Rees that managed to hold fast against the entirety of the Allied army in the final few turns.

CyberGeneral and I did not get the 20 turns in 9 days I thought we could do...but we are on turn 16 so may be able to finish up tomorrow. Certainly not many units left for me (as Germans) to move so my turns go quick! :cheeky:
That's great! HEAT are you also playing SM's other game? I can't remember what happened with that one??!!
LaPalice and I are on turn 9. At our current pace we'd need probably 3 weeks to wrap up, which is way too long.
I'm prepared to forfeit the game to him, as my unannounced 5-week (or something around that) absence is to blame.
I have problems in my two games, as I don't play them very fast. And I am in very big trouble in my game with MikeJ where he obtains very good results with its Germans. At the best I can have only a draw against him.

No, I wasn't asked to play his other one. I would have loved to put the smack down on the Germans though...after having been de-pants by CyberGeneral as the Germans. :surprise:

Maybe another move will show up this weekend. What is the current time limit before we declare the tourney over?

Sunday midnite. (My time (GMT -7), basically consider it 'on' until I post we're done). I've received your email about the delays, and will factor this in when determining how to score uncompleted games. No one will be punished for AWOL opponents.
Checking the WitW page (that Brent keeps so nicely up-to-date for us! :hail: ), I notice that there are still several players who are not done their games and reports.
Is there a new page where this information is being posted? I keep checking http://www.west-point.org/users/usma1987/44419/toaw-1.htm but that page hasn't been updated since 12-15-03.
BTW, I can now happily say that I've completed both games

Oh darn, I should have made a note on the old page. Fixed!
Round 2 is now *OVER*. All players please post your results to Brent, get your game reports in, and we'll determine who the lucky dozen are that advance to round 3!
If you have an incomplete game, now is the time to let us know. Email me with the details so I can quickly determine all the final VP tallies for this round. mantis29a (at) shaw (dot) ca
As soon as I can post the point totals for round two, I'll start a thread for round 3 with all the details, and the scenario attached. We also have a special announcement; a little project we've been working on for months. As soon as we wrap up round two, I'll fill everyone in!
Brent, can you please post all the scores that we have right into this thread, as well as a post with all the names of players involved in incomplete games? We'll work through it right here to help quicken the pace!
Thank you!

Gentlemen, please report these games to the ladder, and I need an update for the SM/JoeBob game. (I'm pretty sure that one of you has written me about this, but I can't find them email).
5 - Dagger5 scores an 'AWOL' OV against Alf. (Points are average OV points earned by other players on the same side).
I would like to point out that Dagger5 did not complete any of his games.
Are you sure he is not also AWOL? Apologies if there is something I don't know - but I think there were several opponents who slipped into round 2
somewhat undeserving. I think by round 3 we really should have reliable opponents and games. Please, please! Can we have a 'confirmation phase'
before round 3 matchups are made? In which players confirm that they are still available and committed to round 3? It was pretty much players who were hard to get ahold of and iffy at the beginning of each round who also ended up dropping out in each round.

Dagger5 sent me a detailed email listing the last dates of contact with both of his opponents, discussing his availability, etc. Yes, I realize it's odd to have a player advance into round 3 without physically winning either of his games, but this has been a very odd round. And I can't abide by punishing him for that.
In each case that I posted an AWOL victory above, I've had contact with the person that scored the win.
Also Bill raises a good point. Everyone involved in round 3 will please confirm their ability to play throughout the round. I have to admit that I am very disappointed with the amount of dropouts, both voluntary and from AWOLs.
Is this the only German OV in the entire round, Brent? Or are there other AWOL OVs?

Is this the only German OV in the entire round, Brent? Or are there other AWOL OVs?
Correct me gang if I'm wrong, but the only other German OV's are from:
1. Sturluger withdrawing and giving Mensch a German OV and
2. Antoni34 withdrawing and giving Bruce a German OV.
Neither game was played to completion although I show that Antoni34 and Bruce played until turn 8.
RavenStrike managed a draw as the Germans (231 points) vs 06Maestro (as the Allies). That's the best result for a German player where the game was actually completed.

These are the Allied players I have with OV's and the points they scored:
17- MikeJ 517
24- Redstorm 509
4 - JLBetin 496
8 - Joebob 495
9 - Skyvon 488
3 - LaszloNemedi 483
18- Fading Captain 479
6 - CyberGeneral 474
22- Bruce 467
28- Tigersqn 447
21- Mensch 429
27- Keef 368
Average Points for Allied OV 471
So ... that gives me the following. If a player forfeited the game, I gave him a -100 as his score. Sort of pulled that out of the air!
Rank Player Allied Axis Total
1 2 - RavenStrike 471 231 702
2 24- Redstorm 509 83 592

12 13- Chuck 471 -64 407

16 6 - CyberGeneral 474 -90 384
17 20- 06Maestro 188 116 304
18 10- Foggy 303 -28 275
19 27- Keef 368 -98 270
20 14- Southern Dandy 336 -77 259
21 26- Sergeant Major -100 -100
22 1 - Sturluger -100 -100 -200
23 15- Alf -100 -100 -200
24 23- Boromir -100 -100 -200
25 12- Antoni34 -100 -100 -200
The players who don't have an Axis point total are those where the opponent forfeited ... except for the SM v JoeBob game. Since this game was so tilted towards the Allies, if your Allied opponent forfeited, you are pretty much ensured being in the top 12. One question I see ... MikeJ scored the highest Allied score but forfeited his Axis game. He is still in the top 12 even with the -100 penalty as the Axis. Should he be allowed to continue with a forfeited game?
The above results are totally UNOFFICIAL pending Shane's review!
I confirm that I am available and ready for Round 3!

So far as I see it, there really isn't a way to resolve this fairly. Giving us all OVs because our opponents dropped knocks out all those who completed both games and had a good chance of advancing were it not for the boost our awol opponents gave us. On the other hand, I guess it's also unfair to penalize those whose opponents dropped.
Dunno. I'd hate to be the one to decide this one. :)
Although, I would be willing to take an average of the German side as my German score...even if that puts me out of the tourney. It isn't a perfect solution, but I think it's more competitive than advancing through a bogus OV.
As I still write it in an other post my 1st leisure priority is the Tournament turn 3 with BASTOGNE:devil:

Giving a forfeiter -120 pts. even would suffice to knock forfeiters out of the advance group. All axis players who scored forfeit victories were slated to advance anyway, so exactly how they are scored won't matter. Exactly how allied forfeit victories are scored OTOH matters a great deal. It's a darn shame. Have fun with this one Mantis. I am like a fish on a hook. I've always felt that victors by forfeit should get maximum possible points but I've never posted that. OTOH it has always been posted policy that forfeitees would get the average of OV points.
Well the guys who had opponents bow out in round 1 were scored on an average so that should be the way it works this time around.

Then take an average of all the German victories and go with that...German victory for this scenario being any POSITIVE final German score.

12 Feb 04, 00:15
Okay ... to quote myself ....
So far, only one player has surrendered and he surrendered in BOTH games, ensuring he's effectively withdrawn!
So to re-phrase what Chuck wrote:
SCORING FOR ROUND 2
1. As the Allied player, count the total Allied Objective VPs, add the German loss penalty, and subtract the Allied loss penalty.
2. As the Axis player, count the total German Objective VPs, add the Allied loss penalty, and subtract the German loss penalty.
3. Add the two totals up. That is your score for the second round.
4. If a player surrenders, he is WITHDRAWN. If your opponent surrenders you get the average number of points for OV's in that round.
Since MikeJ (who is an excellent player!) acknowledged that his game wasn't completed because of delays on his end, he should be withdrawn and the #13 person (Fading Captain) would move up to #12. The points we award to an Axis player who had an Allied opponent forfeit become unimportant (I think!)
And I miss the cut by one point.

Well I'll live to fight another day.
Congratulations to those who made the cut.
May the best of you advance.

Yeah, that really blows for you. I know your opponent surrendered in your game as the Allies ... if not for that, you may have scored more points and made the top 12, but I think we just need to stick with what we said and give you the average of the Allied OV score .... which is

Why do some players have no score for their Axis game?
Tiberius :( That extra turn hurt more than we thought...very sorry.
Axis Strategy for Round 2.
I'm curious what many of you did as the Axis to gain such high scores (Ravenstrike).
For me, I tried to harass Keef's rear (don't read anything into this :p ) as much as possible forcing him to divert his attention. The game ended with me still holding a perimeter 3-5 hexes S/SE/SW of Arnhem. My opponents high losses coupled with those Arnhem points allowed me to keep my score (head) barely above water.
In my other game the Axis gained the use of a fine Mech division...what did I do to trigger that?

Those are players whose Allied opponent forfeited. The rule was they'd be awarded the average of the Axis OV scores ... but we have no Axis OV scores!
I don't think it matters because they are all in the top 12 anyway based on their score as the Allied player.
Anyone who forfeited a game is out of the tourney, period. You must complete your games, or have gained special permission for a reasonable delay (upon which you must still complete your game!)
So point totals are irrelevant for anyone that had an AWOL. Just place Withdrawn after their names.
I'm just getting through this quickly on the fly, but I believe that the list ends up remaining the same?
JoeBob scores an AWOL OV over Sergeant Major.
Doesn't that also mean that we could simply put AWOL OV in for the German games, and not even have to worry about how many points that's worth?

Mantis..........I noted some of the most dedicated players are now out of the tournament...........(unfortunately including I)..........Does this mean we wait 6 months to a year again to finish out this tournament before beginning a new one?...................
I suggest the poweres that be send out emails to all 12 advancers asking for their commitment to round 3. That way no one will have to wonder if they saw the thread etc. and it may hasten my sneaking into an empty slot.

Fading Captain you've made my day! Twins huh? Well I guess they resulted in twin gifts - one for you and one for me. Thanks for falling on your sword.
You had me by a point and you are a noble man for relinquishing your spot.
Bill, are you confirmed? :D

I emailed 5 people yesterday, 4 of them have confirmed. We're just waiting on JoeBob, and we're good to go!

No, I want to win quickly and bloodlessly, so don't worry :D
I remember only one fight between Hungarians and French (in the Napoleonic war). So it will be historical game. It will be teached for centuries in the schools...
