View Full Version : To the last tank..

Noob note - Don't be afraid of taking losses, I lost all my 25 x T-34's in this playtest of "Just Another Village" at the Proving Grounds against AI+3 and suffered a minor defeat but at least I killed all his 8 tanks.
It was his final gun line and shreks that stopped me in the end, but at least I got to within 40 metres of the big objective flag with my last tank..
This is a view from the German side, note the valley is littered with a string of my wrecked T-34's..

Uhhhmmmmm......what is the new player supposed to learn from this debacle? How to lose 3 tanks for every 1 of your opponents?

The new player can marvel at how hardcore ladder-jungle fighters like me will just keep on coming to the last man and the last tank regardless of losses..
No wonder half the members of SZO are afraid to face one of my terrifying armoured onslaughts and try to force effeminate Combined Arms set-ups on me instead..
Hey mate now lets see how you do, the scen is "Just Another Village" v.0.9 and you can find it here, don't forget to give the Axis AI a +3 CEB, and play it blind, ie no peeking at it in the editor beforehand..

How many victory locations are there in that scenario? Just the two in the screenshot?

Yes mate there's the small flag back down the valley where my initial assault stalled, and the big one near the camera which I lunged for in a death or glory job..
I had lots of infantry but they were cowering back down the valley and couldn't keep up, I don't have the patience to order lots of dickhead infantry around, maybe another player can do better than me at that scen (I suffered a minor defeat against AI+3)

From the looks of it, he had a lot of infantry, and AT inf at that. Does this mean if your opponent spends his funds on a couple more good tanks, your own Kill/loss ratio will work against you and you will suffer a devestating defeat. Honestly POS, not to insult your prowress, but if you rely on overwhelming massed tank assaults for nearly every game, don't you think somebody's going to figure out the counter (like the hiding in woods panzershrek battalion from Hell!) to your bull in the china shop approach. From What I've seen of your screenies, all it would take to beat you is to arrive first at the point your massed armored formation is about to attack with a large number of 75mm AT guns. Bye bye nut to butt T34 platoon. Once your armor has shot its wad, I've never seen or heard a word out of you about reserves, or manuever, or even a contingency plan. Mathematically, your approach works, but war isn't math, it's language arts, and there are numerous exceptions to any rule.

But I have learned a lot from your more scientific articles, such as where to set cover arcs and the like, something that I typically have ignored.

No :)
15 tanks rolling forward blasting everything in sight takes some stopping..
Why do you think nobody in SZO has dared to challenge me? ;)

POS, there are a few open challenges right now. I would direct you to Taktik's open challenge--you both have "armor on the brain" so it would be an interesting game.:D

People rarely directly challenge one another here (believe me, I have tried). Challenges tend to be open and then people respond.

One issue may be that......you are not on the SZO ladder (at least I don't see you)?

Hey mate I'm on the SZO ladder, I joined a couple of years ago when it used to be called WHQ, I played 26 games back then and only lost 8 which is pretty kewl..
Then I left, I forget why, maybe I didn't like the ladder scoring, and I haven't played a game on it for 2 years..
I see I'm currently in 41st place, it was hard to find my name because the ladder is annoyingly chopped up into different time periods/ranks/ratings etc.
At the moment I've only got one SZO game going, a mirror pair against Ratzki with no tanks and he's whupping me bigtime, guess I just don't have what it takes anymore (sniffle)
And hey, don't tell anybody, but my reputation as a "crude mass armoured assault" player is one I've mischeivously cultivated ;)
Sure, the sledgehammer approach is necessary when the fluctuating tac situation demands it, but at other times its necessary to switch the sledgehammer for a scalpel and wield it with surgical precision, as shown in my stunning tac pics at Koens forum -

(Look at the "Action screenshots", "Gone in 60 seconds", and "CM Tactics and Gameplay" categories)..
