... a unit should not move, not fire or be fired upon, not dig in, not be in tactical reserve, be in supply (as high as possible), near an HQ (stacked with an HQ?), anything else? Anything here that's *not* needed?

Actually, in which deployment mode should a resting unit be - mobile? I see air units can "rest" but there doesn't seem to be anything like that for ground forces. And "reorganizing" (in addition to not seeming really desirable a status to be in ...) is apparantely something that happens to my units only without my doing.

I have read section 9.1.8 of the manual, but it seems I am not quite getting the whole story ... :surprise:

Thanks! :)

Nah, you almost got it. To recover as much supply and readiness as possible the unit should not move, not fire and not be fired upon. It must not necessarily be stacked with a HQ, it is also sufficient if it is adjacent to a HQ that can 'cooperate'* with the unit. And certainly in a hex with a supply level as high as possible.
AFAIK the reserve status is not a problem here, unless it is commited to combat as a result of the reserve status. A unit that is already dug in will also gain the full recovery bonus.
Regarding units that don't move, but dig in i am not so sure. Actually they don't move, but expend their entire movement points...

Read section 9.1.10 - Command and control about unit and formation reorganisation and 19.1.2 - Unit Quality calculation.
Under 9.1.10 you can read also how formation quality is calculated.

*there has been a post in the axis thread regarding cooperation levels, just can't remember at the moment.
Edit: OR read 18.9.2 in the manual

Dig them in if you can- or at least I do. Using the MPs this way I don't believe makes a difference to recovery, though someone may correct me.

I wouldn't feel very "rested" when having dug trenches or such all the time ...

Thanks!

This is going way back, but I seem to remember a unit should not move or dig in if it wants the maximum amount of supply it can get.
