Any old 'grognard' boardgamers here who've taken the plunge into TOAWIII? And which games did you play and enjoy most?
For myself, I go back to SPI and AH. Gettysburg, Anzio, Squad Leader. There's a number of scenarios out there that were developed based on old boardgame titles, and I once tried to catalogue them.
So if you've an old favourite wargame, let us know and we'll see which TOAW scenario comes closest. Some of the scenarios may be TOAWI so will need conversion, but if you ask nicely around on the forums someone will usually step forward to help.

The first Bordgame I played was AH's Afrika Korps in 1974. I played as Rommel and won!
This was the start of an addiction, that absorbed many hours of my life, and gave me a career.
Despite my wife's demands that I place my collection on eBay, I still have all my favourite monster games- Campaign for North Africa, Streets of Stalingrad, The Europa Series, Wacht am Rhein, Highway to the Reich, The Longest Day, War int the East/West/Europe.
The games I played the Most were France 1940, PanzerBlitz/Leader and Third Reich.
On TOAW, ( I played I & II only not COW or WOTY) I played mostly Eastern Front games, but never played PBEM.
Since getting TOAWIII, I have embarked on Europe Aflame, and am participating in the Workshop, I am hoping to play some more "monsters" such as DNO and FITE.

Europe Aflame I believe is loosely based on Third Reich. I believe Bob Cross built the Campaign for North Africa scenarios around SPI's game.
As to the others, there are a good few Stalingrad scenarios out there. I like Fortress Stalingrad by Le Favre, mainly because- among other virtues- it's the only one that allows the Germans to get out and see what then might have happened.
Normandy has a good few scenarios, including the one we're using- the same author also broke this scenario down into US and CW scenarios, plus a 4 Weeks in Normandy version. Panzerblitz/Leader is a little low on scale to have equivalents in TOAW. France 1940 has an exact equivalent, though I don't think it's based on the game- plus there are a number of variants.
War in the ?. A variety of these are available. Check Rugged Defence's scenario depot which is searchable.
I have been playing mostly tactical boardgames like ASL and TCS (and Ambush!). OCS Korea a few turns once. SPI's ETO (2nd ed). Paths of Glory. A few other games, but not that many. I buy a lot more boardgames than I have the time to play.
But the games I usually play do not really say much about what games I would like to play. I'm mostly looking for WW1 games. That is how I found TOAW3. Earlier games in the series did not attract my attention.
back in the early 80's I had "Arab-Isreali Wars"; a boxed set that I really enjoyed but i couldn't find anyone who played so I played "hot seat"... hehe
and I had a game that came in a cardboard folder called "Wurzburg" ... It was fun too but again, I had to play against the other guy named Hank.
... lots of other wargames played ... like battleship, chess, little green army men, etc, etc.

There's a lot of WWI scenarios. From Balkans 12 up. Todd Klemme's scenarios I think are brilliant if you're looking for something fairly small and short to start with. Rugged Defence has most of them (searchable) and if you need conversion just post somewhere and usually someone will help you out.
I've been looking forward to trying Brusilov !916 and Serbia-Galicia 1914 for ages.

There's 'Chinese Farm 1973' by Sandrik based on the SPI title of the same name and 'Suez 73' from GDW.
Also 'Galilee' by Bowen based on Victory Games' 'Flashpoint Golan' and 'Yom Kippur' (not sure of publisher).
And 'West Bank 1967' by Sandrik based on 'Modern Battles- Jerusalem 67' from SPI.

Wow...this is digging WAAAAAAY back...
AH Gettysburg and Afrika Korps (vs my older cousin) were the 2 that got me started at something like age 10 or so.
There was another one, Fortress Europa or some such, Allies start in England and Africa, Germans have to defend Western Europe...hundreds of little cardboard squares...needed a checklist to make sure you moved all your units...the dog ate my 2SS Pzr, as I recall.
