View Full Version : Pdqport vs L'Emmerdeur
Hi Guys,
My match is getting underway. I have my opponent's opening move and I'll be undertaking my response over the next couple hours. I've been reading over the progress of the other matches and have already benefitted greatly from the advice given to my fellow Axis players. I'd also appreciate any thoughts/tips on my specific situation as I fall under the category of 'total noob' ;) .
Thanks,
Christopher

The file in the ZIP doesn't show as a TOAWIII file, so can't read it. Can you rezip and repost, maybe not using max compression if that was the case? Saved Files should have extension SAL, saved PBEM files a PBL extension. Thanks.

I think you're halucinating, GS. There si no zip file included...Unless I missed it posted somewhere else...
Okay GS,
I did a quick edit of the attachment in my original post (Veers I think I was making the changes when you looked- is why you didn't see it). Sorry about the mix up, my bad when I renamed the file. Should work now. I just did a test download myself.

This looks good. He didn't get far anywhere. Play it right and you should win.
Utah. Blow all the bridges over the Merderet and Douve rivers except those at St Saveur. I'd disband the AT in 33,24 and Arty and Infantry in 36,24- they're just overruns waiting to happen. They'll go to replacement pool but won't do much here. Routed units on ML, others on IL settings.
You need to try to retake and blow the bridge over the Taute River.
Further east, I'd forget Creully. From Bayeux to Caen, just find good defensible terrain and dig in using engineers. Break units down and defend in depth.
Pegasus. Clear 84,37 and you can then get a flank attack from south and Benouville, but I'd start hammering away from Benouville with Direct Arty Support ASAP. Also since you still have them I might be tempted to form an initial line from Douvres-Coleville using the 100% fortified hexes, while units further back get a jump start digging on the ridges.
This is all incremental advice on top of what's already out there on other games and threads.
One thing I've noticed is how effective a broken down SP Gun unit can be in an urban hex if stacked with some infantry and with arty support on defence. For armor I'd recommend tanks in open/hills, SP Guns in urban.
Keep track of his recce units and try to make sure there are no gaps where these lurk, plus shadow with your own recce units, when they arrive.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks a bunch GS! I'll report back once I have my turn completed. I'm gonna be a slow-goer though...
