Does it matter if you assault with units that are "On Ground" or that are not?

What I am after is the chance for success rather than the benefits of saving MPs, such as avoiding going from On Ground and then melee in an upright mode since that takes MPs away. However, if the chances are better if you are not "On Ground", it might be worth it. Hence the question.

This was a tip I picked up recently. Although I do not see it in the manual, anecdotally it seems to give you less caualties and a higher chance of success.

I do remember seing it on the manual (one of them...) that you had an advantage when using ground mode in assaulting. I do it.
