I wanted to ask, if the fact that the map scale X-Y changes sometimes during zooming-out, and range circles can be streached in horizontal or vertical (they are usually not round even on the start) is a bug or "feature" ?

Is zooming in, going to a map edge and zooming out the ONLY way to bring range circles to be more or less circular ? If yes, is there planned in ANW someting to make it more easy, for example a hotkey which would resize/recalculate map scale to make range circles circular for active unit ?

(I know units north or south of it would be distorted anyway, but to bring scale to 1:1 at least for the ACTIVE unit)

And second question, are Semi-Active Radar Homing missiles (like Sparrow) still able to guide and hit without radar ilumination ? For example a plane launches Sparrow, turns back and is going away from target, opening the range, and Sparrow still guides and hits the target ! Is this still happening in ANW or was corrected ? I heard it still is possible, Sparrows (so probably other semi-active missiles) still can be left alone after launch with launching aircraft turning away and hit their targets.... so there is no bonus for being ARH (like AMRAAM) capable, other than multitarget capability ??

SAHR lauching planes should have to continue in direction of the target untill hit or missile destructs in flight... Then the very important advantage of having ARH missiles in BVR combat will show up in the game...

And the last question... game graphics would be OK for me, if only the land could be assigned different colour than the water. This little change would change a lot in map clarity, at least for me. Is such feature possible and/or planned for ANW ? Also is it possible to have smaller platform icons (NTSD) or the only way is higher resolution ? Button icons have selectable sizes, platform icons are not currently ? Will they be ?

Thanks

The elongation of the screen when you zoom in and out on areas near the edge of map is hardly what I would call a 'feature'. :) However, there is an easy remedy for it so I doubt that it will be 'fixed' any time soon. When you find one of your maps distorted, just hit the little "up arrow" in the top right hand corner of the map to Maximize the map. Then hit the "down arrow" next to it to minimize the map and the correct proportions should be restored.

The SARH of Sparrow missiles should not guide without illumination. For example, if you fire them from an F-4 Phantom and the Phantom is subsequently destroyed, the missiles should lose guidance and either go ballistic or simply disappear. Now, this can be somewhat dependant upon how the particular Database editor has decided to set up his control flags for the missile. But in general, this does happen.

Unfortunately, it is still possible for a Phantom to fire and then turn away even though this cannot be done in real life. However, from most of the databases that I've tried, this manoeuvre can reduced the chance of a hit if the Phantom loses contact with the target as it turns away. Therefore, there is still a considerable advantage to the AMRAAM over the SARH-type weapon.

It is not possible to have the colour of the land different from the colour of the water. The only thing that we, as players, can change is the colour of the border / coastline. Yes, you can change the little "+" symbol colours, but I don't think that is what you were hoping to do. :)

To change the size of the Icons, you need to select a higher resolution. I've found that it works for me. Just choose a higher one in the ANW launcher. From all I've heard, I don't think that there will be any GUI changes for ANW. Those types of changes are expected in the next iteration of Harpoon, currently called "The Next Harpoon".

Glad to see you are enjoying the game. Welcome aboard, shipmate!
