who thinks the graphics of H3 are great??? I know I subject myself to "efficient germans" jokes, but I really like the look of the game.

First of all I dont care much about graphics in these kinds of games. With FPS it's something else (although I still prefer operation flashpoint to other more "sexy" games) They directly picture the visual situation and therefore profit from good graphics.

Furthermore, I always think that either go all the way or dont start. So if I had to choose between graphics like H3 (not stylized, down to business) and a game where the developers obviously tried to come up with some graphics but achieved only 1995 standards, I would always choose the former.

I fear that would have been the case with H4. I saw some screenshots of little 3d animations of ships and such, and it just didnt look good.

H3 just looks realistic (as far as I can tell from the movies that show the aegis systems and such)...

the best graphics are in your head anyway... (or don't you literally see an F-16 take off when that little triangle leaves the circle :D)

what do you guys think???

Cheers

I tottaly agree with you, Arno. If there's one thing that greatly contributes to the immersion factor in Harpoon is the graphics. It gives you that "you are there" feeling that's essencial to enjoying the game.

And if there were any doubts about how true to life those graphics are, you just have to take a look at the cover of "Fleet Tactics and Close Combat". How's that for eye candy?:D

In fact, taking the idea a bit further, based on that cover, a die-hard Harpoon fan can build himself his own "Harpoon pit", just like those guys that play with flight simulators and build their own F-16 cockpit. I'm sure that would be a first in the whole pc gaming history!

Cheers!

Don't all Harpoon players have their own little "CIC" room with the blackout curtains and the red lightbulbs when they play?

Just be careful when you try to simulate the sea spray and not get any water on your keyboard! :clown:

Don't forget to turn your air conditioning to about 50 degrees...Most CICs I've worked in are very cold (a matter of the heat given off by all the electronics, and maintaining humidity control), and don't forget to put an empty gallon milk jug next to your work station, since you might be at your console for a long stretch, and the nearest head is one deck up, and might be occupied...and oh, by the way, you can't leave your console in the middle of a battle!

milk jug is a great idea... especially once all the desk drawers are full :gas:
