View Full Version : Let's gear up...and questions for open discussion
1. It would be good for each player to try to connect with their matched opponent - use a private message to exchange e-mail addresses.
2. For the sake of something definite and for planning - players are welcome to start their first turn from July 19th onward. We will assess who has dropped off and reorganize the matches as needed. Special instructions will be posted in the team areas. If you have any problems, contact me at yazidee (dot) aol (dot) com.

Now...here's are a few questions for general and generic open discussion principally for the benefit of new players who want to learn more about strategy:
1. In organizing your defenses, would you prefer to entrench and fortify positions behind a river in open terrain....or....establish a line making use of the best line of defensive terrain (forests, suburban/city, hills) even if it is not immediately behind a river?
2. In pressing an offensive, would your preference be to:
a. attack all along the front,
b. make concentrated attacks along very narrow portions of the front (say 3 - 5 hexes) with the aim of achieving breakthroughs, or
c. avoid unnecessary attacks and use maneuver to wrap around the opponent's flank?
3. Spread your armor...or concentrate it?
Veterans and new players all welcome to jump in...

We look forward to British and American responses on Q2. But as the Germans we will keep our own counsel. ;)
P.S. Am I the only one here without a copy now? I know it's en route but it won't give me much time to test new features.
Dicke Bertha's waiting for his copy, too - so it kind of balances out. We'll probably spend 2 days discussing the first turn...so this buys us the better part of 4 days. But, it will likely take us four days to reorganize the match-ups.
P.S. Am I the only one here without a copy now?
No.
Now to Heinz's questions:
1.) This is very situation dependent, but if i had the choice i would dig in in the more defensible terrain instead of the open behind a river. Refering to Two Weeks In Normandy I think in the open my units would be more affected by enemy interdiction strikes.
2.) The offensive. A mixture of A and B. Sometimes manoeuvering around flanks means to rush through low supplied terrain which might cost the offensive its momentum due to low supplied spearheads. If trying to achieve a breakthrough i concentrate armour and mechanized forces with a good amount of artillery to back them up and attack in one or some narrow points. Perfect for me would be: Infantry achieving a breakthrough and fresh armour and mechanized units exploiting the gap and rushing through. This is soviet style iirc..
3.) Concentrate on the offensive and concentrate on the defence as a highly mobile reserve and/or fire brigade. As always this is scenario dependent.
Telumar, are you awaiting one from Matrix as payment for being on the deveopment team?
1) Have to agree with Telumar here.
2) Mixture of A, B and C. I don't like to waste units on unecessary attacks all over my front, but I will do some to make him think twice about pulling his reserves out of the sectors where I am not hoping for a breakthrough. And where I am hoping for a breakthrough I would go for C if it was available, but more often I would concentate my troops on a smal front to attempt to achive a meaningful breakthrough, using a combination of Mech/Armour/Inf to create the breakthough and then Arm/Mech to exploit it.
3) Always, always concentrate my armour on the offensive. On the defensive I try to spread my armour out so that it can respond to all parts of my front line. Unless of course a major enemy effort has been detected, at which point I'll round up every tank I can find to try to counter-attack, or plug the gap, or pinch off the enemy beakthrough.

Where do I find my matched opponent? Is there a roster of some kind somewhere?
Sorry, but I was late to this endeavor. I may have missed some important info.
Also, should I be able to see the private forum for one side?
Thanks in advance. :smoke:

 Any (native) german speaker is encouraged to do so. I will update it anyway as soon as i got my copy. Enough of hijacking this thread.

You should see a sub-forum, at the top of the New Player Workshop forum for the side that you are playing for.

Well, here's my doctrinal answers to your questions:
1.)I prefer entrench and fortify positions behind a river in open terrain
2.) My reply would be a little more complicated, most of the time i start off playing by attack all along the front as recce, along the game i might either choose b) or c) depending on my judgement, though b) is more of my style.
3.)Concentrate.......at vital spots.
